Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

We'll never know the absolute truth on this, but it is believed that Piquet had the idea and Flav and Symonds went along with it. Apparently Alonso was not aware of the idea which had been concocted.

You make it sound like Piquet was some form of saint. He wasn't. He was the guy who was instrumental in cheating and allegedly came up with the idea. Without Piquet, there would be no incident or cheating. Nobody put a gun to his head to do what he did and I'm bemused you would blame Alonso for what happened. Perhaps you know something we don't...if so, do tell.

You must be reading a different article to me! To me that article says that Piquet Jnr testified that he was told by Flav and Pat Symonds to crash his car. Understandably be went along with it.

Think of it this way: a young driver in his rookie season whose form is suffering. Rumours abound that the boss (BIG Flav :D) is unhappy with his performance and is looking to replace him (with Grosjean). Obviously Piquet Jnr is keen to do what he can to endear himself to his boss (and team) and thereby cement his position in the team for next season and is all-too willing to comply with a dubious team order in order to gain a win for the team. When he is fired despite this, he spills the beans in revenge.
