Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Kimi gets a 5 place grid drop, so he probably wont be a threat into the first corner, depends how long he takes to get past Alonso etc (if at all).

Should be another thriller between the RBR's and McLaren's - can RB do something about their race pace?

Good old BBC, despite not showing the qualifying themselves until later, have plastered the result straight onto the breaking news ticker :p

Yet according to Skeeter he's comprehensively out performing Michael.

I think Lewis is in trouble. He had a massive lock up on his pole lap, and obviously he'll have to start on these.

if the flat spot is quite severe they let you use different tyres, ross brawn said it last week about nico
Last I checked ~.18 is around half of ~.35.

Massa is a joke.
as i said the mclaren looks far easier to drive than the unstable ferrari so its only expected that the gap will be bigger.

whoever takes massas place isnt going to get anywhere near matching alonso anyway, its going to be a career killer for whoever takes massas place

Ross Brawn was saying that if the tyre is deemed dangerous then they are allowed to change a single tyre.

Also, can't they shave the tyres to even them out?

Nice spot, excuse the pun!

Really pleased how lotus are doing this year

Still think Mclaren are making a crucial massive mistake with Lewis, I'm fairly sure last year in one/two races you have a situation where either on pole or simply doing a slow second run in Q3 rather than finish the lap they pull the car in. Problem is I'm fairly sure every time that's happened it hurts the tyres.

You see quite a few teams randomly do a couple slow laps on softs to "condition" them, my thinking is doing a slow cool down lap helps conserve tyres much much more than saving a lap but the tyres cool down way to fast, just a theory but wouldn't surprise me.

Either way, great lap, would have been nice to see him finish his second lap run just to see the time, Kimi doing hugely better this week is great to see, his car seemed to lack a fair bit of grip and he still threw it around and got a great time vs other guys with much better grip in the corners.

Webber faster than Vettel again, must be nice to have an equal car again after year. Now him and Hamilton just need to get a good start.

Great result for McLaren, Lewis and Button.

Going with another Button win tomorrow.

Very impressed by Kimi and Lotus.

Weren't they on different tyres?

edit Vettel is on the Hard tyre

Massa is a joke.

Almost every qualifying for the past 2-3 years(at least) the second run improves times, using Hamiltons lack of need to finish a lap as that being the ultimate gap between them is daft. In qualifying Hamilton has shown on SO many occasions he can put a good 3/10th gap on Button, and had he finished his lap last and this week that gap looks like it would have been a lot bigger than 3/10ths.

Also keep in mind that Massa is being used as a guinea pig, new chassis and a new front wing(that was seemingly designed for the other chassis? so may or may not be great on the new one). Is Massa great, no, is 3/10th's down on Alonso, a truly great driver a bad thing ever, not really, is it bad when you have a new chassis, less testing time and are starting your setup testing for the weekend from miles behind Alonso, no, its actually pretty damn good.

Rosbergs front right tyre is going to be totally ruined, he locked it up very severely into turn one right into turn two as well. Really surprised that they didnt send him out on the harder tyre instead and aborted that lap.

Really pleased to see MSc up there. Judging by his demon starts he has to be looking at 2nd into the first corner. However don't think the merc will finish any higher than 5th, still not convinced that they have sorted out the high tyre degradation. Roll on tomorrow.

He did, and if mercedes are as hard on thier tyres i can see vettel finishing 3rd. Are lotus ok on thier tyres? I think so, going by last race
