Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

whoever takes massas place isnt going to get anywhere near matching alonso anyway, its going to be a career killer for whoever takes massas place

Exactly.

I think there are some F1 fans who don't realise just how good Alonso is and what a great job he is currently doing. If you put most drivers into Massa's seat, they would struggle. Pretty much every commentator and former driver has stated that the Ferrari is incredibly difficult to drive.

To be 3 tenths off of Alonso's time, is respectable. Massa's problem will come in the race, when Alonso goes more than 0.3s/lap faster than Massa. It's Alonso's race pace which makes Massa look bad.

Sky Sports obcessed with Heikki having a gearbox change which give him the 5 place penalty? Come on, it was only a week ago! It was for overtaking people when coming into the pitlane to retire under the safety car.

Umm, Having watched Quali it was pretty clear to me that they were referring to Kimi re: GB change, and Heikki was for an incident during the race. Didn't see them get it wrong once?

No idea what you were watching?

Just rewound it, showing the grid, they mention that Heikki had a penalty for a gearbox change.

Chatting about Kimi's gearbox change after that, they mention that Heikki's gearbox was changed too.

I know it's early, but....

Lewis had a pretty big lock up in pole lap.. Does that mean he will be starting on flat spot front left?

If the tyre is considered badly damaged it can be changed with another tyre from the drivers returned tyres that has an equivalent amount of wear.

Vettel will still thrash Webber in the race. ;)

Where has this ability for awesome single laps dissapeared to Sunama? Of course though we will see him hammer out mega fast laps at the start to pull out a DRS gap though, right?

They will still get Vettel ahead, split tyre strategy again with no doubt the better strategy favouring Vettel.

Yet again more evidence about having a car you're comfortable in.

Come on Lewis convert that pole!

HRT just scraping in.

Really enjoyed that Quali, good result, nicely set up for tomorrow.

Gad to see Schumi in 3rd if he gets a cracking start good be good.

Webber out qualifying Vettel again is a satisfying watch, Vettel's tyre choice is interesting though.

Felt sorry for Kimi, shame he had to switch his gearbox out... Also the sweat was pouring off him in the interview, the Iceman was certainly melting :p

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see Vettel do very well tomorrow, unless someone holds him up.

His race pace is good, and the tyre choice could be key. 5th isn't a bad place to be starting.

While I have only been able to see bits of the weekend so far, it looked to me like vettels shift to the harder tyre was more in response to the car being a bit 'dodgy' on the softs rather then a complete strategy shift.

He's the best driver on the grid though so we are repeatedly told, he should be able to dispatch anyone in front of him with consummate ease, as anyone would expect from the best driver in the world :p
