Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Usually I would agree with you, but this weekend I don't believe that the Red Bulls have the pace. The Lotus, on the other hand, seems to be particularly well suited to these conditions.

Mind you, if it rains, I will surely bet on Vettel to come out on top.

You realise Kimi is starting 10th on the grid yes?

Qualifying looking like last year all over.. I know its only 2 quali's so far but it's just the McLaren show. Redbulls had what, 17/18 poles last year, with a lot of those front row lockouts I think.

Think I'm gonna start giving Quali a miss and just assuming its a mclaren front row.

Sorry for pointless whine. I got up early to watch it both times and felt disappointed.

When shall I set the alarm clock for? On the basis phone adjusts time...

Is this like a test to check i've got it right :p

If you want the grid walk i'd set it for 20 past 8
If you just wanna roll out of bed before the formation lap, then 5 to 9

Does anyone else think it's kind of interesting that in both Q3s this year Hamilton has stuck it on pole and NOT finished his second run? We have no idea how much more he might have been able to wring out of the car on both occasions.

I just hope he has a good start this weekend.

More ominous than interesting, I think. While I'm glad to see Red Bull's dominance come to end; a year with McLaren clearly the best car on the track is no better.

Anthony Davidson did some analysis on his lap, his first 2 sectors were pretty bang on.

It was only the 3rd sector where he made a mistake locking into the last corner. Looking at the sector times he was 2/3 tenths off Mark Webber who was fastest in the last sector.

is it? im sure vettel said in his interview he was better on the hards so went with them, nothing to do with race stratergy.

If that is true, it's much more worrying. The cars should be getting noticeably more out of the softer tyre; if it can't, well, that speaks to problems.

Well if you look at the times 1-8 positions are covered by less than half a second. It's pretty tight at the sharp end of the grid and small changes in the setup can be the difference between pole and barely making it into Q3.

This is nothing like RBR's dominance last season.

I'd agree if that is how it ends up. While the Mclaren looks faster at the moment it certaintly doesn't look THAT much faster compared to the Merc. The RB7 on the other hand was putting in Q3 times 7 and 8 tenths faster than 2nd place.

Ultimately I want a fight to the championship and I want Hamilton to take it. I'll be bored if McLaren just storm to victory in every race with no competition, but at least Button and Hamilton will race each other, I don't think Webber was ever fast enough to do that to Vettel last year on a regular basis. So at least even if Mclaren are the out and out fastest car all year we should still see some racing as both drivers are very fast.

I don't know if Ferrari have got the ability to develop what is clearly a dog of a car into a challenger so that leaves Mercedes who historically have not developed much over the season compared to rivals and RB who have the money and the ability to put Mclaren to the test.

The problem for everyone this year is that Mclaren finally turned up to P1 of the first race with a car that was ready to win some races!

If the RBR continues to stay off the pace as it has done for the rest of the season, and Vettel still wins the WDC, I will be the first to acknowledge that he is one of the best drivers in F1.

Hmm, perhaps. I'd agree with you about 2-8 but LH just seems to set a fast lap at the start of the session then hes pole. He could probably go even faster on a second run but he calls the lap off when he knows its pointless. Talk about an anticlimax.

people kept saying how schumacher would struggle this year because the gap to rosberg would mean hes like 10 places behind :D

wheres rosberg qualified again :p

didnt webber go fast on the hards in i think it was q2 aswell and on the softs he was only 2 tenths quicker?

I'm a bit late to the party here but..

Woooop! Loving that grid. Shame about Kimi's 5 place drop, but we will see what he can do tomorrow.

That's like a dream top 5 for me... Bit of a shame about Kimi's grid drop though...

Pleased also that:
Webber Beat Vettel
Schumie beat Rosberg
Alonso didn't beat Massa by too much (time wise)

I'm also glad the HRTs finally made the 107%....

Now to hope that:
Webber doesn't mess up his start
Hamilton manages to hold off Button
See what Kimi does :)
