Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Are Red Bull going to even fit Kers to webbers car this race or just continue fitting the box filled with paper mache :D

So when will Webbers Kers fail this race?

Saturday or Sunday, place your bets!

I reckon they've wired Webber's KERS button to give Vettel the boost. That would explain why it never seems to work, and why the latter is so damned fast. :p

Are you laying any at betfair? lol

Haha maybe I should but it's pointless taking bets on certainties :D

From the Australia Thread:

Encouraging if true.

Hopefully they can sort that little issue out and we'll see Hamilton finish a race without a sulk on for once!

He's forgetting Jenson didn't exactly make a good start either. I read he upshifted to 2nd (iirc) far too early. I never see Jenson as a great starter, as I said before if Hamilton keeps nailing the poles more often that not he will lead Button into the first corner. He usually loses places.

Very true - JB cant usually seem to nail starts, or when he does he seems to get no "luck" into the 1st corner and gets blocked....but I guess this is partly because its rare for him to have a good Sat.

While the Merc looks like it could be a threat in quali upto China and possibly beyond - Im just hoping the quality of the McLaren so far will allow JB to have an easier Saturday (at least until other teams have time to start putting upgrades on)...of course RBR will also be a threat in quali also

Time will tell, it could be that Jenson really is better suited to getting the car working then Lewis, it's becoming more critical to 'switch the tyres on' and keep them in the zone, not over or under-doing it..

At the moment, I'm still a Hamilton fan (not fanboy ;)), I hope he does bring back his old form, but he can't rely on Jenson being as variable as he's been in his past as he has come on leaps and bounds since joining McL and has ironed out a lot of his weak points..

I think a lot of you are being harsh on Massa.
You are comparing him to Alonso, who is widely regarded as the best driver in F1.
The truth is that the Ferrari is a very difficult car to drive. Pretty much all the commentators have stated this (including former drivers). If you stuck most drivers (not a top line driver) in the Ferrari, they would all likely struggle.

Ferraris big problem is that their car is horrendously difficult to drive. Massa is not the main problem.

Exactly, it's only on here that people seem to think Massa should be a threat to Alonso, almost as if he is totally over rated just so they can put him down, its strange.

Ferrari know Massa is never going to be a threat to Massa, that is why he is paid so little compared to Nando.

I certainly don't believe that - as nice as it would be to see. I said in my previous reply that Massas primary job is to be about ~.3 off Alonsos pace, and to take points off Alonso's main rivals on any given Sunday.

This is a job he is not doing and hasn't been doing for 18 months. This is why his time should be over at Maranello.

Where did you pluck 0.3 from?

If the car is capable of winning then Massa will be up there as proven already (see 2010).

Shouldn't the ideal position for a number 2 driver be between his number 1 and everyone else?

The key is the difference between having a wing man who has got your back, and someone who is pretty much ignored.

Yeah Ferrari is a 1 man team, thats nothing new, but surely it would be beneficial for Alonso to have a team mate who has the speed and skills to help him develop the car? Try out other setups? Put in long runs to test tyre wear while Alonso works on qualifying setups? Thats sort of thing?

Basically, the gap between Alonso and Massa is to large for anything Massa is doing to be used to help Alonso. I'm fairly certain Ferrari would prefer to be in a situation where they are telling Massa to just stay behind Alonso every race, rather than picking him out of the gravel or notching up another 0 points finish. They don't need him to actually be slower than Alonso, they can (now perfectly legally) orchestrate that as and when needed. But they do need him to be fast enough to be able to help out, and he just isn't.

It worked for McLaren and Lewis in 2008.....

I don't think Alonso needs any help to develop the car or do his setup's TBH
