Maybe Perez thinks a little more of himself than playing rear gunner.
Do bear in mind, just because you are brought into the team as No.2, it doesn't mean you are duty bound to be slower than Alonso. If you can go quicker than Alonso, then go faster.
As we saw today, Alonso is a driver of absolutely the highest order. I believe that he has been top dog since 2006 (ie. for the last 6 years). Many commentators often use the words "best driver in the World", alongside the name Alonso. There is good reason behind this. Alonso is the also the most expensive driver in F1, right now...again, for good reason.
Today we saw him in a car which is obviously difficult to drive, but because rain is a great leveler, we saw him able to work his magic. Once the track dried, you would have noticed that overall car performance became the determining factor in terms of how fast you can actually go. This is when the faster cars behind began to close him down.
If you are a young driver, then you can learn from Alonso and watch how he works. You can watch where he gains time. If you prove yourself, you can leave the team in 2 years and become team-leader in another team, with all the skills required to be a team-leader.
And as others have pointed out - just like most footballers dream of playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United, so do most drivers dream of driving for Ferrari.
