Malaysia Grand Prix 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/20

Vettel moves across into Karthikeyan - Karthikeyan gets the penalty?

Ok, Karthikeyan was being lapped, but how could he get any further off the track? Maybe he should have stopped entirely?

From one replay(showing it from the front) Karthikeyan moves slightly to his right as Vettel moves to his left, only slightly and had he not Vettel probably wouldn't have clipped him, however, Vettel had no need to rush over the split second he passed him, he had time and space.

not sure what they've said about the Button incident, same situation to a degree, Karth did move into the path Button was going, though he had every right to and again in that situation I think Karth was taking a wide line because, well, his car is ****, while Button read it as a **** car moving over for him.

IN a perfect world Karth could have prevented both incidents, though he still didn't do anything wrong, Button didn't need to dive up the inside without knowing what Karth was doing, and Vettel didn't need to move back to the racing line as quickly as he did either. Just because a driver could have prevented a collision doesn't make it his fault, for all we know Karth went slightly to his right and hit Vettel because his rear end lost a little grip, Vettel did not at any stage need to be that close, he's completely at fault.

Button was quite lucky in a way that Vettel didn't score and Hamilton didn't win.. keeps it close still :)

Mclaren need to sort out their tactics and pit stops. IMHO its their weakest point that seems to cost them points.

Didn't see much wrong with them tbh.

Lewis overshot on his 1st which meant that the rear jack man had to chase the car. that slowed down that stop.

On the next stop, they were removing tape they'd use to block up the brake ducts. This applied during the red flag, as the temps were cooler and large ducts reduce areo efficiency On a dry/drying track it needed to be removed to prevent over heating the brakes.

They also suffered a few cars pitting which meant on a least one of the McLaren team stops, they had to delay this release. That happens to all teams.

Been thinking this for a good few years now... Every other Team has it down to a tee. How you can't perfect a pit stop is beyond me. I understand that teams do make small mistakes and some things can't be helped (Lewis' tape), but time and time again McLaren seem to be losing races in the pits and in that stop window through their tactics. Whilst Pit stops today I put down to a minor issue, the tactics were awful. Jensen should have gone in a lap earlier, and so should Lewis. I also feel Lewis should have had Jensen's pit stop window, purely from the fact that McLaren say, whoever's leading gets to pick. I'm not sure if Lewis wanted that window or not, but I kind of feel that McLaren should have pushed him to take it more than Jensen.

Button admitted the error on this one. In the after race interview with Sky, he said it was his mistake, his rear wheels locked up slightly, and Karth was all over the place, but ultimately he said the error was with him.

Now if only Grosjean could admit he keeps messing up...

Did anybody notice Hamilton's comment about trying to think back to what he did in 2007.

That is a good sign, hopefully he can stick to that and we can have 2007/2008 Lewis back!

Also lol at Vettel giving karthikeyan the finger and them calling him an idiot

Is the Sulky spoiled brat Vettel going to return now that everything isn't going his way?

I was going to say the other day, when people were saying that they think Ferrari don't let Alonso speak his mind (start of this thread?), that I actually think he's really matured since he went there. He doesn't whinge when the car is rubbish, he just gets on with it. The old McLaren/Renault Alonso would have thrown a fit.

He never whinged at Renault either, he just got on with it and said all the right things. His bad press comes from the mclaren days purely because he was at an English team against an English driver. Sure he whinged his arse off there though but the English media did their bit as much as the Spanish media has to make Hamilton public enemy no 1.

I used to despise alonso but to me it's pretty obvious he's head and shoulders above anyone else. I would go so far as to say the best driver I've seen since senna. He wins races when he just has no right. When ms had a car that was not as good as the rest at Ferrari he needed a 6 car race to notch a win.

Alonso is a machine, of course I understand why he's disliked, I'm sure he's a cylon ;)

My concern is they are not notching enough points while red bull is struggling, my own concern is they are not going to have enough of a gap when red bull come back at them.

Of course thats my own paranoia still to do with a two driver team taking on a one driver team.

That is assuming that RB does in fact come back at them. This is also my concern though, it is similar to last year where there was no real challenger to Vettel's campaign and they all kept taking points off each other.

Any announcement yet why Vettel was ordered to stop so suddenly in the dying minutes of the race.
