Malaysian Grand Prix 2011, Sepang International Circuit - Race 2/19

its the Brawn Double Diffuser update all over again.

Car Designer spots gaps in the rules, exploits it.

Everybody whinges, complaints its illegal and doesn't copy them.

FIA rules its legal

everybody copies.

imo its not because it may pass a test but its blatantly obvious to anyone it bends more than the few mm the fia rules allow.

probably be banned next year once most people have them  so much for the cost cutting of f1 to help the lower teams

I think the other teams have been slow to catch on. This assumes that the other teams didnt begin development over the Winter.

McLaren were using a bulbous nose with hydraulic arms running to end plates during winter testing, this was presumably to understand how to develop the flexible wing.

are they are any pics of wings this weekend? have mclaren got their own version of the flexi wing?

I haven't stumbled across any myself, but I'd imagine they'll turn up sooner rather than later with Sepang having some high speed bends.

Afaik McLaren don't have a flexible wing thus far. Hamilton certainly said after the Melbourne GP that he hoped the guys back at Woking would manufacture their own flexi wing soon.

Theirs was moving under the heavy braking a little, when watching the onboard shots, but think it was the 'normal' movement you would expect. I'm pretty sure the RB ones isn't as much as last year.

Its blatantly obvious to everyone that you are a troll but, the rules let you stay!

Just for the fan boys, Lewis is doing the best he can with what he has, Vettel is doing the best he can with what he has. The cars are the biggest factor, ignore Whitmarsh, ignore Horner. the boys have their tools, they chose those tools, they race those tools and at the end of a Sunday afternoon they accept where they are pace wise.

You lot can moan, bitch, whinge all you like about F1 but, you dont pay the bills [tv does} I am no longer able to partake in these threads other than this post so will say my goodbyes. contact me at work [Pete]

catch you all soon.

Again?! Sigh :(

At the start of FP2 (I think) on BBC ted kravitz mentioned a ferrari mechanic was watching back video of a HD camera they had fitted that was facing side ways presumably looking to see how much the wing was flexing. How succesful that test was if that is indeed what they where doing and whether or not they are using that wing I dont know.

You would have to assume all the top teams are going to go for it, particularly in light of brawns comments recently about taking some tracing paper to the body work of the RB and sticking a merc badge on it (wee bit of interpretation on my part). :D

PS I wanna see a Mark Webber win and a DNF for seb!!!!!! God I hate that lil s***

I hope Button gets a clean start. Not sure he'd want to be stuck behind the Ferrari again, as it's looking rough around Malaysia.

Does anyone know who is running more downforce, McLaren or Red Bull? I'm thinking rain = bigger advantage with those running more :)

and who pays the guys who make tv, so they can pay Ecclestone........ oh yeah, us

Your argument is poor because, of course they accept it, who has denied that, who here doesn't accept that Red bull won last year or are faster, the question we are asking is why and should they continue to be allowed to do so, not denying it occurs.

I said in another thread, its a shame that we won't have truly competitive racing until everyone else gets a front wing that cheats as much as Red bulls.

The FIA's single and main target for area's to "fix" and make fair, would be the blatantly obvious front wing that clear as day on any footage bends more than the allowable amount and a tonne more than everyone elses. Is it not strange that 22 cars had a wing that didn't bend much and appeared to not break the 5mm rule or the maintain distance from ground rule while 2 cars clearly, clearly didn't operate the same? Double diffuser, not against the rules, just no one else thought of it, when they saw it they ALL made one. Dodgey bending wing, everyone saw it, everyone had thought of it, STILL 22 other cars did NOT add it because they thought it was cheating...... F-duct, no one else thought of it, no one else thought it was cheating, everyone got one asap. When 12 teams all believe something is legal, they jump all over it, when 11 teams think something is illegal, against the rules they don't jump all over it.

F-duct wasn't illegal in any sense, they didn't get away with it because testing didn't spot it, it just wasn't in the rules that it wasn't allowed, so they got rid of that and left, or didn't amend the rules to "catch" Red bull.

Anyway its boring, i'll finish on the main thing I've said all along, its a shame that to become competitive everyone has to cheat......... they might be passing the tests but they are breaking the "spirit" of the rules that everyone else WAS playing along to fairly.

Feels the same to me as if one footie team found a steroid that was undetectable, and the only way to compete after a couple years of everyone looking for a test to catch them, is to also take the undetectable steroid.

Anyway, should be a good race at least interesting pace between the top 4 cars and a genuine chance of "real" racing at the front due to pace rather than race mistakes/pit mistakes/safety cars. I hope it doesn't rain, or at least it doesn't dramatically screw one of the front runners, really want to see this race play out as a straight... whose the best driver scenario, so rare these days.

another media gag? is it because these forums are so anti-vettel/rbr at the moment that rbr employees arent allowed to be associated with such negativity surrounding their product?

Shame you got to go , but totally understandable. Good luck on a personal level this season although I'm rooting for mclaren :p

I'd say it was more of a case of people venting towards CS just because he works for RB and as such seen as a direct link to RB.

F1 has always been about cheating, as long as you don't get caught, unfortunately RB may not have been caught in the legal sense but its blatantly obvious something is up with that wing :) Its a shame but its no different to many events in the sports history. Besides without it this forums would be dead, its adds some excitement and discussion to what would otherwise be a boring sport. Soap operas are popular for a reason ;)

I don't think anybody has vented anything towards Nuts.

There is clearly some envy/anger towards RBR, but this is simply because they are so dominant. Any team which is so dominant is likely to experience this. I remember when Ferarri/MSc were winning everything, there was a lot of anti-Ferrari/MSc sentiment.

I'm sure that if McLaren were to start winning everything for 1-2 seasons, there will be some negative comment directed towards McLaren.

Being the best (at anything), is always going to make you/your team/your company a target for negative comment. If there isn't any negativity directed towards you/your company/team, you probably aren't deemed worthy or good enough to be talked about.

Hehehe. Precisely.

If we all agreed unanimously about something, these discussion boards would be pretty boring. I wouldn't even bother writing everything. Part of the fun of a discussion board is the disagreement and debate. Sometimes I wind people up, just to get a reaction ;)

What's the craic with CS||nuTs not being able to post? Horner makes more controversial comments than he does. The anti Vettel - RBR brigade always seems to occur when one team enjoys a period of success, especially so when the drivers aren't of the forum's nation. :p

Anyway getting back on track. I'm gonna sleep with my fingers crossed and hope there's no washout. Doesn't seem like the question is if the race will be rain affected, rather by how much!
