Malaysian Grand Prix 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/19

Unless Red Bull take some sort of action internally then Webber, if he is to retire at the end of the season as some seem to think will blatantly ignore any team request then appear contrite and apologetic on the podium. If he gets punished and Vettel doesn't then he can stand up at the end of the season and say without any guilt, 'Christian talks a lot of ******** about there not being a number one at that team'
This is what I was saying to my Mum earlier. If Red Bull don't fine/punish Vettel, then Webber could think that he can do the same at some point in the future and escape punishment. I think someone said earlier in this thread that Vettel actually needs Webber more than Webber needs Vettel. If, as we expect, Vettel is a title challenger, isn't he going to need a rear gunner to finish 2nd if Vettel's winning, or for Webber to win races to stop Alonso/Kimi etc from taking the full 25 points? ;) I just wonder what Webber would want to do if he's winning, Vettel's 3rd but some Spaniard called Alonso is 2nd. :p

Nothing sucks the fun out of an F1 weekend quite like an OcUK discussion. I thought maybe we could talk about what happened with Force India, why Williams are performing so badly and the fact Kovalainen was milling about in the Caterham garage suggesting he might be back in the team.

But no.

Has anyone in F1 explained what happened with Force India? Was quite amusing.

Kovalainen back at Caterham? Maybe he's after a reference? For the soon to be vacant 2nd seat at Red Bull. :D You heard it here first! :p:cool:

Not sure if FI were using a new style of wheel nut or wheel hub but I'm sure that For Di Resta they said the car was stationary for too long and overheated. Not sure about Sutil but they had the same wheel nut problem.

WE'll see, would be quite funny if come the last race Alonso only needed a second to win the title and Webber lets him through without much of a fight ;)

What if Vettel wins by 6 points? Settling for second could cost him a championship.

He saw an opportunity and took it. In an era dominated by tyre management and strategy, seeing a guy win by simply using everything available to him to beat the guy in front should be a refreshing change.

Should we be happy with a formula where the final stint of a race is meaningless and drivers are nothing but team controlled drones?

I'm glad Vettel went for it, it was great to watch and great to see not everyone is happy to settle for second. Rosberg should have managed his attacks on Hamilton better and got in front if he wanted the place, not just asked for it. And Alonso was right to try and stay out. He went almost a lap without losing a place and only needed to stay out a few more to save an extra 30 second stop.

Do you know this to be a fact? Or just a bit of baseless speculation you're indulging in to try and make your 'fair and square' position look mildly less laughable?

In an interview afterwards Christian Horner said they were both running the engines on full..

It was confirmed during the Ted's Notebook section of the post-race coverage that it was a captive wheel nut issue.

They have copied the McLaren system but have clearly not quite got it right yet.

Force India have showed a raw pace since the start of testing, most interesting is really why Sutil looked so good last week and a bit crap this week and Di resta the complete reverse. Conditions, style of track, just a bad week for Di Resta and Sutil maybe simply being tired as two close races after his first race back, particularly when the weather makes both very straining?

Ted said something along the lines of the wheel nut being an easy fix, I think had Di Resta both gone out earlier in Q2, and not had the wheel nut issues he would have been pushing/ahead of Button(definitely if Button pitted near the end like Perez had to).

Would like to see Kovo back, the Caterham drivers are a god damned embarrassment, though in that vain, I'll prefer to see him in Chilton's seat, completely rubbish pay driver, Bianchi is utterly destroying him.

Williams, lol, people were talking them up in preseason, all I saw was really poor speed in their long runs. Their pace is rubbish, serious backwards step on last year, they've gone from midfield and the odd exceptionally good race to making Marussia look near competitive... that is quite some fall.

Main reason I'm not that impressed with Mclaren is, despite his position before the crap pitstop, that both had a tyre issue deemed bad enough to pit both(and retire one, likely to save face more than anything) 2 laps from the end, I think Button was just a pitstop out of sync with everyone and Alonso + one or two force india's ahead of him + another pitstop and Mclaren would be the trailing end of the top 10 again.

Lotus are still the most interesting and difficult to read, I thought they looked inconsistent and iffy preseason, the last race threw me, maybe its just those particular conditions. There are more 2-3 stop races in lower temps than there are races like today though.

Teds notebook said they developed a retained nut like McLarens, but without McLarens help. Didnt detail the specifics of what failed though, just that it was the nut.

How long is Massas deal at Ferrari? Bianchi is performing brilliantly, he's going to be on a lot of teams radars.

Hi, so did nobody watch Ted's notebook at the end of the SkyF1's race program where he commented on why Force India had wheel nuts issues?

Oops, Skeeter just got in before me

Whether he knew about his wing or not, carrying around for a further few laps would have surely brought out the black and orange flag for him anyway. Wasn't Vettel the first to pit for slicks on lap 5? Alonso would never have lasted that long.

Refreshing change? since when did doing over your team mate become refreshing? Would you be saying the same if footballer tackled a team mate to prevent them becoming top scorer?

Is this the way you conduct yourself at work, back stabbing and acting like a lose cannon?

Haven't gotten around to watching that. If I was them I wouldn't be too quick to copy too much of McLarens pitstop technology :p

Di Resta would have beat Sutil in Aus if not for *team order* to stay behind.

Your opinion that "screw the management, the agreement and my team-mate" is acceptable says a lot about you.

He is part of a TEAM, he isn't a lone wolf, he didn't build the car himself and he is paid by RBR to do exactly what is asked of him. He is an employee.

More often than not, RBR ask of him and expect him to win. Today he was asked to put the team ahead of himself by bringing the car home safe and ensuring the points. He showed himself up as a brat that can't follow the requirements laid forth by his superiors.

His actions were detrimental to himself, his team, the sponsors and in a way, the fans because Webber wasn't racing, he was jumped. Who knows what might have happened if Webber was told it was a straight fight to the flag?

If your boss asked you to complete a task you didn't really want to do would you choose to do whatever the hell you liked, even if it royally ****ed your co-workers?
