But it did effect the outcome of the race (or would have if Vettel hadn't done the right thing).

But that doesn't mean your analogy of it being like a football manager making his team throw a game to help later works.

And... we don't know it changed what the result would have been. Had there been no team orders and Webber drove like it mattered, maybe Vettel wouldn't have taken him.

But at the end of the day, if he is "that guy" with 4, 5 6, however many WDC's, does he care?

If he's a numbers only kind of guy then yes it won't matter to him. Personally I think he's much more sensitive than that and the boo's he will get from podium to podium will get to him more than a MS's.

Personally I'd rather have the kind of legacy Gilles had with no world titles than 3, 4 or 10 sebs way in the best car year after year. No matter how many titles he wins he won't achieve that and not because Gilles died in a car.

Hard but fair.

I can't help but feel if it was a team order such as "Mark, pull over and let Seb pass." and Mark ignored it, he would be castrated live on air. Few press words to make it look like they're going to discipline Seb, but I'd have doubts anything will happen.

exactly.

He seems to be a numbers guy, collecting stats and things.

I know what your saying. If I made a list of all the (recent) drivers I would want to be mates with, none of them would also be on the multiple WDC's list. In fact I think the only title in the whole list would be Buttons.

These threads always end up the same way. Petty arguments with people using extremes to try and make everything seem black or white when that's almost never thr case. I hope all the race threads don't end up like this. Infact i think mods should keep these race threads in order and try and keep these big discussions/arugments in their own threads.

Horner said: "They haven't been bosom buddies for a few years now. They're both competitors. What Sebastian did wasn't right. He acknowledged that. He has apologised.

"He took things into his own hands. His desire to win was greater than the team's desire to avoid a situation like Istanbul a few years ago.

"That's racing drivers. Of course Mark is frustrated and of course the team is frustrated. But that's why they're racing drivers.

"It's uncomfortable for us, but we contract them because they have that drive and desire."

So basically Christian, you're saying that although the team can give out team orders they don't have to be obeyed at all and that's because they are racing drivers because they have "drive and desire"...

So if Vettel is 15 points ahead on the last lap of the season being chased by someone in second place who has the chance to win the WDC if they finish first it's ok if Webber shunts Seb off the track because he has that "drive and desire"...

Oh how I would love to see what he would say should that situation ever arise................................

:D:D:D

Personally as a casual watcher if f1 I'm glad he disobeyed the team. It's complete horse and kills the competition if the teams decide who finish one/two especially when they have one/two sewed up.

Good on Vettel and hopefully more drivers will do the same and grow a pair, makes the sport a lot more exciting!

That is exactly how it should be imo, but the thing is team orders WERE in place. Had they not been then Seb would have obviously been absolutely within his rights to do what he did. Alas, they were in place and Seb ignored them.

This then makes a mockery of team orders.

IMO as a casual fan this is a great thing :p

I can understand those who are right into it objecting but for pure entertainment it was great watching him take first.

If only Rosberg had done the same to Hamilton as he easily could have.

Rosberg tried, quite a few times, but he always did it in the first DRS zone and then Hamilton just went back past him in the second. Had he thought about it a bit more he could have waited, got him in the second zone, and been ahead when the call to hold station came.
