Malaysian Grand Prix 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/19

I've been thinking about it and I've come to the conclusion that both Vettel and Hamilton were lucky to have Webber and Rosberg as team mates respectively.

Lewis and Nico traded places a few times and fought quite hard but ultimately Nico cooled his boots and fell into line. Webber fought the first few corners but then, as we've seen, gave up the racing line on a corner to allow Vettel through without crowding him off the track.

If Nico had kept fighting Lewis I can imagine they would either have crashed, Hamilton would have run out of fuel or they could have both trashes their tyres.

Equally if Webber had turned his car back up to 11 and continued to fight, they could have crashed or killed their rubber.

If Hamilton had moved to RBR and he and Vettel had found themselves in the same situation I can only see it ending in a collision or serious tyre degradation for both drivers.

Would Lewis have kept behind Nico if their roles were reversed? Probably not but maybe in the future after this race. Would Webber have followed team orders if their roles were reversed? Probably but maybe not in the future after this race.

I think he would have. Might have been some crying on the radio, as we have seen from him before, but I think he would have honoured the orders.

Well I for one enjoyed what Seb did, added a little spice to F1.

:) It has somewhat livened up a race that for the most part was pretty boring. Had none of this happened the race was over from the last round of stops.

Seb only did what a lot of folk probably wanted Nico to do anyway.

In other news, when will Perez stop getting mugged?

I think the race was good until the final stops and then the team orders stuff added a bit of extra spice.

It definitely sounded like Merc had given up at the last set of stops judging by the pit-wall interview with Brawn at the time.

McLaren might not even secure fourth in the WCC at this rate. Wonder where it all went wrong.

Hamilton's been bigging up Mercedes. He thinks they have the second fastest car outright, and that if they work hard they can be the fastest at some tracks.

If thats the case, then surely that puts him in contention for the title?

Personally, I can't see them being quick enough, but it will be great to watch them try.

I can see McLaren catching the front runners fairly quickly. After all, it's easier to make a dog-slow car quick than a quick car quicker.

Equally, will Merc, Lotus, RBR and Ferrari keep up the development to the end of the season to maintain the gap, especially with the new regs next year…

I assume they will up to a point. I read in F1 Racing that one team (can't remember who) has 2 separate teams, one working on the 2013 car and another already working on the 2014 car.

If they are in the title fight then they will keep developing. If not, they might decide to switch all focus to 2014.

Hamilton must be loving the fact he moved now. It was funny when he drove through the Mclaren pit box.
He definitely is up there as a contender. I wonder how Alonso would have done if he stayed on the track.

Most probably Ferrari you read about, isn't Rory Byrne part of the 2014 "team"?

I'd be surprised if most of the top teams aren't doing the same TBH.

I do wonder if Rosberg had the fuel and tyres to pressure the Red Bulls if Ross had agreed to let Nico pass Lewis. That would have made a more interesting finish.

Could well have been.

McLaren and Ferrari know all to well what can happen if you get caught up in a title fight just before a major rule change. RBR and Mercedes too, but from the other side of the fence.
