Fair play to Vettel holding his hands up and apologising to Nico, not often you hear that from a driver.

Fair play I'm not really sure, he said Nico wasn't to blame but he also seemed to talk quite a bit about Verstappen moving around and seeming to want to put a bit of blame on him.... which... what? He didn't touch Verstappen, he went in late enough and deep enough that he hit a guy ahead because he didn't slow down enough.

What has any of that got to do with Max moving around? He may say he braked at the same point as Max, but RBR stop on a freaking dime, Ferrari don't. RBR have either the best brakes or joint best with Merc. They consistently outbrake people and make overtakes doing that because they are so good. Frankly if anyone but Hamilton is braking as late as a RBR, they are braking way way too late.

Can Merc one stop on hards? is that what they are trying to reach so far into the race on the first set for? So will Verstappen have the lead but need to stop again, and if he does that, will he be fast enough at the end to catch them.

Doesn't immediately look like Rosberg can get at Kimi who pulled away a little after coming out.

I think if Hamilton pushes really hard towards Verstappen I think he'll be on a two stop, if he doesn't push too hard, maybe going one stop.

Looks like it could very well be possible if they're careful.

Thing is, if they protect the tires enough to one stop, with Verstappen pushing on both sets, Verstappen could have unmatched pace at the end of the race. With Ricciardo staying out longer and longer, certainly looks like their plan is to get as far as possible before pitting for a seeming one stop.

Hamilton surely not one stopping if he's setting fastest laps

He's still the fastest car on the track, it's hard to tell by now much he gains what his strategy is because the car is just faster. I think overall he was protecting the car and driving more towards Ricciardo's gap than Verstappen. What is cruise pace for Merc can be fastest lap while the absolutely fastest lap the RBR can do might not be fastest lap of the race.

Had he been trying to gain say 1 second a lap I think he'd be clearly trying for a two stop and cared greatly about track position and getting ahead asap.

The big danger is that he doesn't push too hard expecting to one stop but 10-15 laps from the end needing to pit again because the tires are going away too fast.

Grosjean confirms brake failure.
"Hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor."

Not an ideal thing to happen at turn 15 after that straight. Luckily, there's gravel there. Tarmac run off wouldn't have helped.

Don't think that is good, Verstappen in already. Game over for racing Hamilton I'd say. Only 6-7 lap fresher tires he won't have enough tire life. If he managed to get to say lap 35 I was thinking he would be a fair way behind but would have the ability to be 1+ second a lap faster tire wise(maybe not engine wise).

Wow, Max's hards didn't last long, in for a change already!

He was on softs afaik. I think that is also something they screwed up, should have been mediums or hards. Also yes, if Ham/Ric find the hards just won't last to the end, then Max still in a very very strong position. Also a good position for him to catch and pass Ricciardo, but if no more stops for the top 3, Hamilton has this.
