Man city escape ban! Or did they? [Update 6/2/23]

Nothing will happen. They will get a fine, say sorry and promise not to do it again.*

*get caught again

I don't think so this time - 100 different charges have been made against them this time - Way more serious allegations and if you look at the actual rule breaches - they are much more serious than last time.

It will take an age to sort out - will rumble on for a while I suspect and ultimately the Premier League is in uncharted territory here with this level of breaches/charges against City.

Just scrap the rules and come up with something more visible and workable.

Thats not how these things work. Its a game of cat and mouse. Its like tax evasion. Think of any rule as being similar to football rules. There are easy ones to enforce and there are hard ones to enforce. There are people who play by the rules and people who cheat and lie to bend or break them.

Unfortunately there is not such thing as "the spirit of the law" for the most part and a shockingly large number of people have 0 morals and believe that if you can get away with something on a technicality or by whatever other means, its fair game.

I still think City will get barely a slap on the wrist when it comes down to it. It will appear serious but without actually being a proper punishment. They won't strip them of any titles. They will perhaps dock them enough points this season that they struggle to get into the CL and they will ban them from a few transfer windows. City will appeal this, spend big in the summer and then accept their "harsh" punishment.

They are workable to everyone else.

No I just mean as visible to us all, not just the accountants. X million per year on wages. A wage cap and X million on transfers. No one cares where the money comes from so just simplify it. The whole thing is a joke in it's current format. It's pointless discussing what will or won't happen because it's far more complicated than we will ever know. The Lawyers will get rich working this all out.

You can look into all the numbers for the most part. The issue is partly that City have been lying and cheating those number by all accounts. Inflating sponsorship figures. Paying people off the books etc. As to what you can spend, it depends on what you make from sponsorship, match revenues, player sales etc.

Surely we are going to give them the benefit of doubt until all the facts are laid out in front of us, you know like Mason Greenwood :p

Yet in this case your happy to go with a 'by all accounts'.

Whole thing is to try to maintain the status quo, which is why United fans always froth at the gash over this. Old people don't like change.

That’s just a selfish ploy in order to push Liverpool one place further away from the relegation zone surely?
Nah I don't support Liverpool so no agenda here.

Seriously tho what do we think the punishment should be? I can't see how they can continue in the league. They've cheated clubs out of a lot of money in the past 14 years.

how does this compare to Derby County? They had 30? point deduction didn't they, couldn't buy any one, renew contracts etc. If it is more serious than Derby, I am all for title stripping, and massive point deduction and or relegation.

No idea Pandora’s box has been opened and I’m not sure who really thought ffp would be barrier.

I mean, if you want to make that comparison then yes, I imagine the same number of people will want to give City the benefit of the doubt i.e. very very few people.

This is all just starting now so everything people say is pure speculation. Informed speculation but speculation none the less. We are discussing this. Its been pretty clear though that some of Man Citys sponsorship deals and their amounts don't bear any relation to the value it would deliver to the company involved. Have a look into the 8XBet deal if you want to see some of the slightly suspect activities.

If you don't want any rules that fine but when there are rules and people are playing by those rules then those who don't should be punished. Its pretty simple. I think you will find that fans of every club want City to actually get a proper punishment for this.

Also, froth at the gash is a weird and horrible phrase, please don't use that again :p
