Manchester United vs Liverpool 09/01/11 and other 3rd round FA Cup matches *SPOILERS*

bloody itv. staying up to watch todays highlights and who do they show first? that's right, united v liverpool, the game they showed live and it was rubbish!

I don't know when Paul Merson said something to 'provoke' Johnson, but chances are I'd imagine it was when he was doing his job, i.e. being a pundit.

To be fair as well it sounds like he criticised him, Liverpool fans will have seen him more games this season than me but I get a strong impression he's been less than good.

Itv are utter rubbish, the highlights program yesterday, on the HD channel and the quality is shocking, I'm watching it online at the moment and I swear it doesn't look much worse.

Yesterday they spent AGES on the City/Arsenal game, again a game they showed and spent ages on analysis of the game, both after the game and in the highlights, then say the Bolton and West Ham games they barely showed 20 seconds of.

Considering their analysis is the most shambolic pile of rubbish anyway why they can't focus mostly on the actual highlights and most on the games that weren't shown I don't know.

ITV screw up live footage more than anyone else, their highlights are a joke, their teams of pundits and commentators suck, they miss crucial goals in seemingly every huge game, they should be banned from all football coverage to be honest, BBC, Sky and ESPN just make them look a complete joke.

Why is it United fans cant seem to stay off the pitch when the team scores? Seems to be happening all the time lately, suddenly there's some random loser in there celebrating with the team and winding up the opposition, no Utd players bother to tell them to sod off and the stewards just let them melt back into the stand afterwards. I thought it was made a criminal offence to come onto the field of play?
What happened at Stevenage shows you can't trust even your own fans to behave sensibly on the pitch. What's more it would only need one or two rival fans to take exception and before you know it we're back to the pitch invasions of the 80's.

Oh and BTW ESPN lost the feed several times during the Leicester vs City game :D

See ESPN are good, saving us from watching City :p

Actually ESPN lost the feed from something else, the late game yesterday, can't think what game it was.

ESPN certainly have issues, they(or setanta) aren't even close to BBC/Sky quality, but compared to ITV, miles better.

I wouldn't be surprised btw(not read anything about it today) to find out its a Newcastle fan who was in the Stevenage end, fan of both clubs maybe or whatever who hit him. Seems nuts that a Stevenage fan would smack him one.

ITV shouldn't be allowed live sport end of.

Liverpool team picks itself for me:

..................Reina
...Carragher...Skrtel...Agger
Johnson.......Aquilani......Aurelio
.......Gerrard............Maxi
.........Kuyt.........Torres

Not all available at the mo of course but plays to their strengths, Johnson and Aurelio can provide the width, Agger had some freedom to step out from the back when required which may be required with those guys in the centre of midfield.

In terms of transfers considering Aquilani is on loan I would be looking to bring in a central midfielder to hold the fort, Lucas and Poulsen aren't up to it IMO (Lucas has the odd decent game but for me he doesn't cut it for a team that has aspirations of playing in the Europa League).

Haven't seen anyone play 3(5?) at the back for a long time. Also, from what comparatively little I've seen from him, I would definately say Lucas was/is better than Aquaman.

I've never ever seen 3 centre backs played effectively. Always leads to people not knowing who they're meant to be picking up and gaps being left. Especially against a team with wingers, the 2 centre backs would be dragged out wide and some serious gaps would happen.

On paper some sort of 3-5-2 system looks the perfectly suited to the players we have available however it's a big switch to go from 4 at the back to 3. We did actually play the odd game with 3 at the back under Benitez but we never looked comfortable with it. Although tbf, I don't think it's a system you can just switch to overnight, you've got to be committed to it and probably something you've got to bring in during pre-season.

If we did go down that route, Aquilani wouldn't be the deepest midfielder though. Stick Lucas alongside him and then play Gerrard + 1 behind Torres.

Completely different type of players. Lucas is a workhorse, gets about the pitch closing people down and tends to keep it simple with the ball, Aquilani on the other hand is a creative midfielder.
Love it. :D

He's meant to have found form again at Juvé though.

He found his form in the last few months of last season.
