Arent peple only seeing 50% gpu usage under dx, somethings not right is it.

I see the same thing in plenty of games where CPU bottlenecking occurs. Ironically it always seems to show as your GPU not running at 100% utilisation because the CPU/GPU are imbalanced. Your GPU cannot keep up with the CPU.

Explained very well here.

Q. Why is my GPU utilization not at 100% on DirectX?
A. DirectX and the driver are responsible for interpreting the graphics input from the application and converting that to commands that the GPU can process. Under the current DirectX API, this can be a very CPU-intensive process. If the CPU cannot generate commands faster than the card can process them, then your GPU will not be fully utilized. For a more in-depth answer, please see Oxide’s APU 13 presentation regarding this subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIWyf8Hyjbg

P.S. Your own Ninja edit was missed ;) I don't hold an emotional view, I'm simply tired of seeing silly reasoning crop up as viable facts. How could rational person believe Oxide would deliberately cripple their own graphics engine in DX?

I am to put simply blown away by Mantle.

I've gained about 50 FPS :D

Exactly the same settings as last night/same clock speeds.

The only issue i've got is all of a sudden my FPS drops to 30 (hitching) but I'm sure it will get fixed with a future driver update.

Edit.

My 7970s are working harder too, the fans are going crazy :)

Edit again,

IT'S BEAUTIFUL

Good stuff :)

Known issue of AMD Catalyst 14.1 Beta
Mantle performance for the AMD Radeon™ HD 7000/HD 8000 Series GPUs and AMD Radeon™ R9 280X and R9 270X GPUs will be optimized for BattleField 4™ in future AMD Catalyst™ releases. These products will see limited gains in BattleField 4™ and AMD is currently investigating optimizations for them.

:D

By overclocking the CPU according to that if I am reading it right, should create a linear usage increase in GPU usage?

Or am I reading it wrong.

I overclocked my 3930K to 5Ghz and ran the bench and frames dropped. GPU usage never over 40% either and CPU usage in the 30's....

You just seemed a bit emotional on the subject :)

On a more serious note I can not see why by over clocking the CPU would not give gains inline with this if it is the CPU bottle necking the GPU. Am I missing something fundamental here?

Who said it isn't? I honestly haven't tested to see it my self but in theory it should.

Go test it with CPU stock clocks then overclocked to see what happens.

It definitely should. Trouble is the benchmark is very inconsistent (the way it spawns AI ships is random), so you might have overclocked your CPU and the run you did to test it actually spawned more AI ships and so your score went down.

I did a test run on Paracel Storm. On DX11 i had a few drops to around 45FPS,with mantle its always GPU bound lowest i saw was around 65.Its reallly goooood. This is on FX8350 with 290X.

It might be better to do averages. I only did two DX tets using RTS because for me the static camera give the most consistent results. Even with this inconsistency no way DX would have got anywhere near Mantle performance in the same scenario.

I don't see what is wrong with a developer pushing the limits of what Mantle can do to show it in the best light compared to DX. This is how developers sit up and take notice. If they look and think a whole new market (low end CPU/GPU or APU) has opened up for us then they may adopt Mantle.

Awesome :) I'll do a quick run on Battlefield 4 when I've got the drivers downloaded...a fraps run should suffice for now. Looks to be a good un to be honest...where's Matt's Crossfire results? :p

I don't know if it's just me, but I have noticed in Mantle my VRM Temp 1 is crazily high on the card with Mantle enabled (It's definitely Mantle, I re-ran with DX11 to ensure I wasn't going crazy).

Anyone else seeing this, and is it normal?

Fortunately, the card is not throttling though and the core is never over 78c (with custom fan profile).

Ok, so I was playing BF4 using Mantle, all seemed fine apart from a little stuttering every few minutes. I switched back to DX and I got a black screen. Figured maybe I had to restart BF4 for it to work properly. After restarting my PC and trying to load BF4, I get this every time the map finishes loading:

Anyone else getting this? From the message it seems like bad code in BF4?

EDIT: Tried running Unigine and keep getting the display driver stopped working error...

In between the crashing, i've just jumped on a siege of shanghai server 64 players and the lowest FPS I got was 100 (full Ultra, FOV 90 and 4x AA).

Which is pretty awesome considering I couldn't run the game with the Mesh setting on any higher than medium even then my FPS would have dropped to 45 FPS.

Anybody else crashing?

i7 920 @ 4.05.
2 7970s.

My graph lines are pretty much in line with each other on the overlay but i have had a couple of massive spikes usulaly after i just join a server or change options and this causes a split second of lag.
