Mantle Feedback/Bugs

AMD really like to put a target on their back. I've had enough for one day.


I'm as frustrated over this as you, i don't think it does any good pointing the finger at AMD just yet.

BF4 has had Memory leak issues since day one, along with a thousand other issues, the fault might be on AMD side. it could be both AMD and DICE.

Yet, be that as it may, why then does the Star Swarm app run perfectly in Mantle while BF4 lasts for 2 minutes of the worst stuttering i have ever seen before crashing in spectacular stile?
 
Can't you roll back to 13.12 WHQL Brains? Try a repair install on BF4. Sounds like there is some other issue at play here. Try updating punkbuster for BF4 (pbsetup - google is your friend) as well.
 
Wasn't/isn't the memory leak primarily to do with having an onboard gpu enabled? iirc the same happened in bf3. If its happening in mantle bf4 on systems with igpu's disabled or even not present in the system I'd say its an entirely new error. Though most likely an issue at dices end (shocker) as pointed out star swarm works fine. That said has anyone set star swarm to loop for a decent length of time to make sure?
You ccan't help but feel amd may have been better skipping bf4 and just putting out some more tech demos, as it is amd will take most of the flak even when its most likely not their fault.

Interesting, what i have is a Memory leak, a very bad one, it does the same thing on both my Intel and AMD CPU rigs.
neither have iGPU's, i7 930 and P-II x6 1090T

I hear you but man BF4 needs Mantle. It just runs (even with a buggy driver and buggy game) so much nicer than DX. I have the performance overlay running 24/7 when i play BF. It enables you to see the constant shortcomings of the DX API. I cannot wait until we reach a level of decent stability with Mantle and the driver. Eventually i hope ill never have to experience bf4 on dx ever again.

I would be pointing the finger at either a coding error on dices side or a driver bug on amd's in that case, either way it should be possible to patch.

I hear you but man BF4 needs Mantle. It just runs (even with a buggy driver and buggy game) so much nicer than DX. I have the performance overlay running 24/7 when i play BF. It enables you to see the constant shortcomings of the DX API. I cannot wait until we reach a level of decent stability with Mantle and the driver. Eventually i hope ill never have to experience bf4 on dx ever again.

I didn't mean never but perhaps they shouldn't have given dice the exclusive release, or asked them to release a tech demo based on frostbite before putting it out to the public in its full form.
 
Memory leaks are usually driver faults or have always been fixed with drivers that I know of.

I don't think so in this case, the fact only BF4 has the memory leak and not Star Swarm points to application problems. If a memory leak was in the drivers then all applications would exhibit the same problem.

I hope so, because from what i have seen in Star Swarm; Mantle vs DX, i'm with Matt. DX can go do with itself.

Maybe but Star Swarm needs a loop or something to see if it does it. It still could be Dice of course and wouldn't surprise me. I remember having a memory leak many years ago that was sorted at driver level.
 
A driver doesn't present the same profile for every game/engine, so it is possible its the driver, though given dices track record I'd be looking in their direction.
 
One thing that puzzles me is DX11 and Mantle benches. I am sure the 290 got more fps on the 13.12 drivers than what the 290 is getting with the 14.1 drivers or is that just me?
 
wtf, Mantle ran great until last night and tonight after work. Wont go over 40 fps and my the weapon does not appear or is invisible ??

Weapon does not appear is a bf4 bug i think. Verify game files maybe?
 
Yeah just doing some research on it now, what about the low fps and the fact that It crashes with no error message just after loading ?

Gutted as it worked great before

No idea sorry. Maybe try reset video options in game and then restart and reapply settings?
