** MANY SKYLAKE DDR4 LAPTOPS NOW IN STOCK & AVAILABLE AT OcUK!! **

I can't see anywhere that they claim you need 6gb for 1080p?

Hi horrorwood,

Correct, we haven't, and we don't claim this - but see more recent post that explains why we believe that 6GB vRAM is a far better purchase for the enthusiast / performance user.

Thanks.

Whats the battery life like on the Aorus x3 plus v5?

Is there a possibility of releasing a touch screen version?

Hi RoBoT,

We don't see any plans on the roadmap for a touchscreen model, sorry.

Regarding battery life, we don't have official figures for the V5 model yet, they will come soon, hopefully next week.

Our official test on the AORUS X3 V4 model:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-022-AU&groupid=959&catid=1828

"The MobileMark 2014 (Productivity) - Primart BATT battery time is: 479mins"

This would be under "normal" user conditions. Not graphic intense work or gaming.

But at virtually 8 hours, pretty impressive. We would expect that with the power saving nature of the Skylake CPUs that this performance will improve further.

On HEXUS review of our V3 (Haswell model) they reported:

"To gauge real-world longevity, we loop a 720p movie clip with 50 per cent screen brightness and all wireless radios disabled. In this scenario, the laptop fell into hibernation after exactly 280 minutes. Almost five hours isn't bad for a gaming laptop,,,,,,,,,"

Once we have the stats for the V5, we will post.

Hope that helps.

Hi Meaker,

The original question was raise about AORUS X3, which does have high res panel.

The presentation posted gives details of the nearest comparison we have, where we tested our QHD panel on P35W model, against the 4k MSI GS60, clearly showing that for a 4K screen, you need more than the supplied 3GB of vRAM, for the machine to deliver the quality to the screen.

IE: the Gigabyte 3K spec is going to deliver for the user, rather than being a "better" (?) headline spec, that actually cannot perform as you may expect.

3rd slide (p2 in bottom left corner of image) shows that for standard FHD, 3GB vRAM is just about sufficient, and states this in the text box.

But again @ Gigabyte we aim to give customers value by providing the headroom of an additional 3GB vRAM, supplying all of our high end P35 machines with 6GB of vRAM for our GTX970m models (P35W and P37W), and 8GB vRAM in our GTX980m models (P35X and P37X).

The performance difference when just powering FHD screen, is only slight, about 2% improvement on FPS on a 6GB vS 3GB - but every small improvement gives a better experience, we are sure you would agree.

However, the REAL tangible benefits of the 6GB vRAM on a FHD model, would be when user wants to output to external display. Our Mini Display port will support 4K @ 60Hz and HDMI 2.0 also supports 4K @ 60Hz...

If your machine was only equipped with 3GB vRAM then the performance graphs above (in previous post) would again become reality.

Hope that further clarifies the message we are trying to get across.

Gigabyte UK NB Team

That I agree with :)

Wouldn't mind this answered too. On the Aorus website it only mentions 3.1 speeds and has no mention of thunderbolt.

Hi Doppleganger,

Thought we were losing our minds, but in fact this was answered on a different thread, not this one:-)

"Hi Flashheart,

Type C USB 3.1 - yes this is on the machines.

TB3 - no this isn't installed.

We believe there are advantages of our design, separated HDMI / DP / usb3.1, means we can have HDMI 2.0 (thunderbolt is 1.4) and full IO port. Removing the need for a converter when connecting 2 external displays.

Hope that clarifies,

Regards,

Gigabyte UK NB Team"

Does anyone have an idea when we'll see some reviews of the new gigabyte V5s? As well as the MSI GS60?

Gibbo can you give us a write up of the P35X? Especially about how loud it is and how hot it can get!

Atom80, any idea when we'll see some reviews of the V5s?

Hopefully Gibbo can update us all in the mean time!

Hi Blinkz,

V5 models will be circulating the media over the next couple of weeks.

Hey Atom80,

Any ideas on when there'll be new stock of the X3 v5 at OcUK? And any idea when you'll get them in Selfridges, as I went there for a look in person and the staff were surprised when I asked about the v5 - they thought the v4 was the latest model.

Also any news on a Skylakeversion of the X5, as I really can't make my mind up on the X3 or X5!

Cheers!

Hi dafadau,

We can confirm that OCUK first delivery of the AORUS X3 V5, skylake model, is in their warehouse, arrived 8.30am this morning !

It is waiting to be booked onto the system, so should appear very soon.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoru...0hq-16gb-ddr3-512gb-m2-pcie-ss-lt-018-au.html

OcUK have this product first, and we wont see it in the wider market for the next few weeks. So for the mostpart the V4 broadwell model is what we exxpect to be widely available, including Selfridges.

Re X5 V5, we dont think this wil arrive before Xmas, and with broadwell stock selling through quickly,,, if you are torn between the 2 models,,,, you need to act fast! Snooze= looze :-)

What will be you usage of the unit, maybe we can assist with the decision making in some way...?

Look forward to hearing back, and hope that helps somehow!

Firstly, thanks for the detailed reply!

I really can't make my mind up on the two! I'd definitely be using it for gaming on the go; I have a nice beefy desktop at home, but I travel a fair bit abroad for work and tend to be in each place for around a week.

I'm thinking a bit of gaming at airports, on planes and in my hotel; that tends to point me to the X3 I think, but the extra screen size of the X5 really appeals for some World of Tanks, Civ 5 and EU4.

Is there a big difference in battery life when gaming?

Hi dafadau,

OK. You will get better battery performance from the X3, simply because this is single GPU, smaller screen, SSD storage rather than dual storage with HDD on the X5,,,,

Neither unit, or any other Gaming laptop, is going to give you "all day computing" when used for Gaming.

Our stats said we got 479 mins from X3 doing light tasks, and safe to say this would be down to 120-180 mins if Gaming. We don’t have figures to hand for X5, but can get them from HQ tomorrow.

Something to ponder that we thought when discussing your post in the office:

AORUS X5 - 15.6" size is going to give you much better gaming experience in your hotel, for sure. Bigger screen, SLI GPU etc etc... But may not be ideal travel companion when actually on the plane (unless you get to travel business class of course!)

AORUS X3 - 13.9" size - better on the plane, but are you going to miss the extra inches when you are in the hotel? He he...:D

Ideal solution,,, ask Santa for an AORUS X3 and you purchase the X5!:D

Hope that "helps",

Regards,

Gigabyte UK NB Team

Great stuff - thanks for your answer!

One more question: I notice that the X3 doesn't have Thunderbolt 3; is it possible to use any future external GPU without that? Could sway me towards the X5 with its SLI.

Hi dafadua,

Even if the machine was equipped with Thunderbolt 3, it still wouldnt support the connection of an additional GPU.

There is a lot more that goes into the development of the SLI models (AORUS X5 and X7),,, and althought the main reason X3 isnt offered in SLI configuration, is the limitations of the chassis size, the motherboard and other componenets wouldn't support an additional GPU simply being plugged in externally.

Hope that answers your enquirey...

Looks like the X5 is edging ahead in your mind :-)

Whichever you choose, let us know your order number and we will send out an AORUS hoodie for you :-)

Both great laptops, I went to Selfridges in London to compare the sizes (I already have an x3), and as I travel a lot with a pretty standard issue tumi laptop bag, the x5 doesn't quite fit into it. If you travel irregularly with a particularly wide laptop bag, then no question the x5 is great, but it is noticeably bigger and heavier than the x3.

Hello,
I'm interested in buying this little fella, i'd made few researches and watched some reviews and I think it's best value for money :D

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...x-980m-8gb-gddr5-gaming-laptop-lt-071-gi.html

However few days ago it showed that it's gonna be "released" on 6th of November, suddenly the date vanished..
Would it be possible to get umm a hint when it's gonna arrive or how long it's gonna take if I will place pre-order this week (Monday?)

I hope I did not mess up something ;)

Thanks :)

Hi,

I hoping to get some further clarification on the "P35X V5" (spec discrepancies)
reading this thread, I'm just not sure if the V5 being referenced is the Aorus X5 V5 or the P35X V5,

I would like at least a 980M, or more particularly not a 970M, this is due to some work based number crunching, which appear to have issues on the 970.
Some level of portability and battery life is also a nice to have, i.e. the GPU is not always going to be in use, but would be nice to start it up test, switch off and the code some more.

My issue is with regards to USB 3.1, while the P35X V5 site says it only supports USB 3.0, some where above, in this thread, there is mention of the V5 having the upgraded version (i.e. faster bandwidth)

If the P35X doesn't have USB 3.1, it would make more sense to buy a clevo based version, with more future upgradable options, in a very similar form factor ( and portability/battery life)

Anybody got any thoughts ?

Hi send_it_2_me_

Sorry for any confusion, here is confirmation of the connections on the P35X v5 models. We will update OCUK with any errors on the web descriptions. But to clarify there is a USB 3.1 Type C connection on these units:

I/O Port:
HDMI 2.0
Mini DisplayPort
D-Sub
RJ45
USB3.0 (Type-A)*3
USB3.1 (Type-C)*1
Earphone (SPDIF)
Mic-in
SD Card Reader
DC Jack

Hope that answers your enquiry.

Thanks.
