Many still using XP?

Had numerous issues with Vista from way back in the pre beta stages. Never got it working how I liked so stuck with XP. HAve just abotu got to the stage where I think I may upgrade, but now im more interested in Windows 7. Unless I suddenly need DX10 and +4GB RAM (i.e. someone produces a new game that is good) ill just stick with XP till 7.

So much FUD about Vista it is just astounding.

I can understand people who stay on XP because its not worth the hassle to reinstall an OS, or there is no point, or because it just doesn't have the drivers for a piece of hardware.

But to claim you don't use Vista because you have read something by some blogger who copied some other blogger who copied some other blogger writing bad stuff about Vista is sheer madness. At one point some of the claims made by bloggers about Vista was just plain one-upmanship and down right lies.

I'm not going to try and change anyones mind. But do bear in mind what bloggers value most. Traffic. And if all your competition are blogging ant-vista fud and getting all your traffic what are you going to do? Stick your kneck out? Doubtful. Most bloggers don't have any integrity. So they join in with the FUD, often adding to it. So it ends up like chinese whispers.

Thus, one blogger has a problem with UAC not installing an application (most likely because he was doing it wrong), so he embelishes it a little. Then another blogger picks up and that, and adds a little to it. (UAC wouldn't let them install ANY application). Then another blogger picks up on that (UAC was threatening his wife and children) and then another blogger adds to that (UAC was preparing a ground force invasion of his homeland after nuking the majority of his countries infrastructure, millions dead and 10 times that number injured or sick. So he uninstalleved Vista and went back to XP and all was well again in blogger land ).

Or....

you dont blog, but have been using Vista since the leaked Longhorn Alpha in 2003, and have had a number of issues and annoyances so decided to stick with what worked, XP.

I dual boot atm

Vista x64 for gaming and general usage

Stripped down XP x64 for benching

I enjoy company of heroes in DX10 so stuck with vista really

XP SP3 here, got a couple of versions of Vista kicking about but just prefer using XP. Vista is nice looking and everything but XP just feels a lot nicer to use than Vista does, imo.

I'll give Windows 7 a whirl when that comes out but for the moment XP does everything I want it to and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Except Vista has been widely shunned by the 'business' world.

Perhaps so from all the press thats about and it may well apply to some businesses, but not all. Developers need to move forward with platforms, otherwise no one would be writing apps for it or for 7.

Moved to Vista and not looked back really, XP only gets used on machine that struggle with Vista, current O/S's being used:-

Main Rig - Vista x64 Enterprise
Media Centre - Vista 32 Enterprise
Home server - WHS (so stripped Server 2003)
Backup machine for main rig (has come in handy more than once) - Vista 32 Enterprise
Wife's MacBook - OSX and Vista 32
My Netbook - XP sp3 (Will probably go Vista and maybe OSX)
Spare latop - XP Pro sp2 (really old IBM T23)

XP,theres no reason to change yet

Windows 7 looks the same as vista.....

We heard you the first time. So far we've got that you don't want to use Vista because people think it's good, and aren't interested in Windows 7 because it doesn't have a different theme to Vista.

These are both excellent reasons.

XP does everything i need and i just never got used to Vista

Main rig XP SP3
backup for main box web and stuff XP SP3
bedroom HTPC XP SP3
living room HTPC XP MCE
gaming laptop Vista prem 64
web surf laptop Vista prem 32
fileserver win 2008 server

XP here on both pc's.
purely & simply because i decided to wait for Vista and the necessary drivers to mature. then they announced windows 7 & i figuresd ide hold fire to see how that shaped up as it was supposed to be a much improved take on Vista. so i'm v interested in windows 7. gonna try and bag a beta today, & if it turns out as good as folk are saying it is i'll skip Vista for win 7.

I removed the utterly detestable Vista 64 Ultimate from my laptp, htpc and am in the process of doing so with my desktop for the lovliness of XP.

How about this reason, I dont think I will be upgrading to windows 7 from vista cos vista is running perfectly on my main sysrem. But I might put the beta version of win7 on my 2nd pc.

Still on XP but will go over to 7 for DX10 / DX11 gaming if the RAM usage isnt as severe as Vista. Alythough i could just use more that 2GB :p.
