Maradona

more or less room than a 4-3-3?

a 4-2-2-2 (is a variation of 4-4-2)

More I think, It would rely on Messi and Tevez tracking back quite well, Maxi Rodriguez and Di Maria, while they were utterly useless on the ball worked quite hard off it, I do wonder why Veron seems to have been dropped utterly, he was their best player in the 2 group games I saw.

I have to agree that for all of the media hype surrounding Di Maria, he was garbage today, I don't think he got a single cross in.

From what I remember through the year, he's looked impressive, or maybe theres another Di Maria or someone with a similar name because I don't really recognise the face, which is pretty recognisable. He's been useless at the world cup, no idea how Maxi is in the team, couldn't get a game at his old club because he's been poo for years, Benitez thought he was a bargain and he wasn't playing due to maybe manager/player problems, turns out he was just crap, been useless at Pool aswell. He's now been useless for Argentina and can't see how he started.

Was Veron banned, 2 yellows or injured? I think he was dropped for the 3rd game just to give him a break as they were all but through, but he WAS the creativity in the side, the guy that Messi needed to thread the throughball to him, and that player was just completely lacking for them.

I said before the game that Argentina vs Germany would tell us who would win the cup most likely, based on how both teams performed against a significantly better side than either had yet faced, and Germany held their form, maybe improved, Argentina simply couldn't produce that football against a better team, not helped by lack of Veron or a Veron type player in his role.

Frankly Maradonna got just about everything wrong, took some of the wrong people to the cup, started the wrong players in important games, 4-3-3 wasn't the problem, wrong players was, any system can work if the players are playing well, no system will work if players are playing badly or you've put on the wrong players. Veron was the best player in the Argentina squad in the cup, but didn't play, Di Maria and Maxi had their chances and showed nothing at all, they had massive quality on the bench but stuck with non working players, that was never going to work.

Di Maria has been very impressive for Benfica. Maybe the way he was being played didn't suit him, maybe he was a little nervous, could be a number of things really.

With Veron, given he's such a favourite of Maradona, I can only assume he was struggling to play games so frequently. I was doubtful he could do so when he got picked.

I've been waiting for a brilliant moment from Maradona!

He said in a press interview that it's games like this that want to make him put on a shirt or something along those lines.

For about 2/3 minutes I though, this is it! He's going to sub himself :D

Legend. Can't say he didn't live life to the full.

Has been one of the best things about this World Cup.

He should quit and allow someone that knows what they're doing to take over. As good as he was as a player he's nothing more than a mascot for Argentina.

LOL shows just how much you know....he did really well considering Argentina just barely made it into the WC.

Problem is with Maradona is that if he had balanced his side with some good defenders ie Zanetti and Cambiasso for instance then i dont think Germany would have had a field day with him...they might have gone further but tbh i honestly thought they were genuine contenders...i think if they had beat the germans then they may have very well won the WC.

Anyhow if he does go then it would be a crying shame...i thought he was one of the most entertaining managers at the WC with his enthusiasm and passion everytime they scored a goal....and as someone said the players seem to love playing for him unlike England where rumors are rife that most of the English squad werent even happy with Capello, who is much more successful than Maradona as a manager ever was.
