Marriage

Run forest, Run !

but more seriously it is a bit strange to ask on a forum about how to map out the rest of your life (possibly)

You’re asking here, let’s see, 3:50 am post, you’re either drunk or she has kicked you out of bed.

Let the forum decide.

I want to give a serious answer but I cant becuase I think this is silly and I genuinely hope you are joking, think for a second seriously if your GF knew that your marriage proposal to her was not decided by your heart, but rather a bunch of random's on the internet one Sunday afternoon, I personally think that would be devastating for her. Go away and think seriouosly what you want to do, think about what marriage means to you, think about whether you truly believe that this is the person you'll be with for the rest of your life.

Marriage is a unnecessary complication to the natural demise of most relationships :)

This is a common opinion of those who've never seen a successful married couple, and it is completely wrong.

It can be exactly what you say, but only if you married for the wrong reasons. Marriage can be a beautiful thing.

:edit: and to digipeep, you know the answer already :p

I got engaged last year it just felt right at the time. Everything was perfect then I jogged my hand with nerves and stuck the ring on her little finger.

Kick started the old sexlife too which might come in useful for you seeing as you posted at 3.50am :p

This is very true. With large numbers of marriages ending, many young people haven't had good role models when it comes to relationships and marriage. A successful marriage takes work, commitment, flexibility and compromise, which are skills many people these days aren't willing to use.

lol @ the usual spiel of someone asking an obviously tounge-in-cheek question on the internetz and then getting the usual bevvy of dead serious replies and cries of moral outrage from the sense-of-humour-bypass crowd. :D

She's thinking about marriage? Now is the time to dump and run!

It can only be this.

Spot on mate. Fortunately I have those role models and I'm not young anymore at 33 :p

Getting married is as cheap as you want it to be.
I don't understand why anyone would be stupid enough to get into debt for a wedding. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

My marriage was very cheap but it was 29 years ago however my mate got married the other week.
Total cost = very cheap.

Hanley Registrar
Her = one of her posh frocks
Him = his suit
Abbey Hulton Community Hall - meal done by family
Abbey Hulton Community Hall - evening disco by mate + buffet by family
Video = done by me
Photographs = done by another family member
Honeymoon - back to Wales where they live by the sea

I would also put my guitar collection on it that they will die old together.

If you want to, do it.
If you don't want to do it, don't.

What you don't need to do is ask a bunch of people on a forum - many here because they don't know what a woman is let alone got as far as thinking about marriage ;)

I was engaged for 9.5 years (tried to make it 10) before we both went for it - and it wasn't a fretful shall we, shan't we job. After 9.5 years we were ready, we both had done the things we wanted before settling down with someone and it was a 'what you doing next august....wedding?'.

Thats how natural it was - just in conversation and it was decided, next day church prebooked and then the madness started, but we did most of the wedding ourselves without spending stupid amounts.

You have some grey matter between your ears so hopefully you will make the decision yourself ;)
