You're using the word child when it isn't applicable to a 14 year old teenager. The terminology doesn't "bother" me, it's just incorrect. I don't disagree with the law or think it shouldn't be a crime, but it's not pedophilia. The difference between this and for instance Ian Watkins, the ex-Lost Prophets singer is night and day, yet we're applying an equivalent term when one crime is magnitudes worse than the other, at least in my opinion.

Uhh.. Yes they are still children in the eyes of the law and any sane liberal. In the UK it is defined as anything, literally anything below the age of 18.
They're a minor under the law, that isn't what we're talking about though, we're talking about the use of the word Paedophile.

I've no doubt you are correct.
The law is clear that a child is anyone who is under the age of 18 and whilst you might be able to join the army and do other things at 16 or 17 the LEGAL AGE OF CONSENT is 16, the law is there to and I quote "protect children from abuse or exploitation". Who cares what the correct terminology is it's still child abuse/rape, it's not like the teacher had no idea that he was only 14 and ignorance of the law is no excuse. None of the other factors should matter other than she knew the boy was legally underage and went ahead and engaged in sexual activity with him anyway. She certainly shouldn't be allowed near children again as she's proven she can't be trusted to act lawfully around them and even putting aside the safety of the children, teachers are supposed to be role models and if she has no respect for the law what else might she be teaching them?

The bloke in me remembers being hot for teacher at 14, but the parent in me would be apoplectic if a teacher did this to my kid. That's just too young to really emotionally grasp the situation.
