*** Mass Effect 3 ***

Fair warning chaps, avoid the Bioware forums now. There are trolls out there who know the endings and are spamming the general discussion forum over there.

Snape kills Dumbledore?

Or should that be Shephard kills... I can't think of a single NPC beginning with D...

You should avoid the Bioware forums as a matter of course anyway.

I'm talking about actual stats. You've got damage, recharge speed, etc for the skills, like Sticky Grenade and Incinerate but no way of knowing how much damage your Katana shotgun does or what the clip size or rate of fire are. Seems a bit indecisive... especially given how many tiny upgrades you get, you've no idea what difference they actually make. I assume they are making a difference but so far the only difference I've noticed with the Scimitar Shotgun is that each rank gave it 1 extra shot in reserve.

Weapon upgrades increase clip size - if you want damage upgrades you need to get damage specific mods installed.

On a side note, finally managed to complete a gold challenge map. Had a really good team, mind, but to be fair without at least one person with the rare sniper rifle (widow) and stasis, I don't think this difficulty is doable.

Yeah, I've finished Gold two times now and one time I got to Wave 9 with just two other people. In all cases we had an Asari (pistol only to reduce power recharge times), me as an Engineer and an Infiltrator (with sniper rifle but not widow).

I've had teams that stormed Silver quite easily but never managed Gold. Only had a few attempts since it didn't seem like it pubs would have much chance and I figured I would get a similar turnover playing Bronze/Silver than failing early on Gold. We eventually failed on I think it was wave 7, at one point when I was the last alive after we'd already killed a fair few enemies, I was running away from 2 Atlas, only to run straight into 3 Phantoms...

As for my Infiltrator... I'm now on about V for the Mantis and VI for the Viper (and only 1 mod available) and I haven't seen the Widow at all. In all my playing I think I've had about 3 rare unlocks, all classes. Most of the time it just gives me junk. Not to mention the random items fails miserably. Bought 2 recruit packs, got exactly the same class and mod unlock in both out of all the possibilities.

Oh and had an awesome gamebreaking glitch. Changed class to Vanguard after playing Infiltrator for a few rounds... and I had only 1 skill on my hotbar and it wouldn't let me add any more. So I spent 2 rounds (hoped it'd work again after... seems the only solution is to remake the lobby) with only Shockwave on my skillbar. Was annoying... but hilarious at the same time and it made me appreciate Shockwave :D

caved in and just ordered it. Im ****ed that they did the whole exclusive dlc/story extra but whatever il just play it so that I can see the end of the arch and be done with it.

and judging from the interview with GiantBomb last week it seems they confirmed that all the little choices you made in the last 2 games actually mean sod all.

That was obvious already. Its one of the reasons I stopped giving a **** about the game ages ago because it was clear they were never going to pull it off. They watered down every decision from ME to mean absolutely nothing so they were clearly going to do the same, which is kinda stupid given that some of them are clearly pretty major choices.

The sad thing is, playing the MP demo has made me want to play ME2 again because as far as I can tell, it plays EXACTLY the same. Its a shame they won't do something like Last Stand(alone) for Dawn of War II where you could buy it separately for a reasonable price because the MP was actually quite fun.

No offence but it was pretty obvious that the pivotal choices in ME2 would mean eff all in the new game.

For starters they can't release a game you can't play through to completion. I'd love it if they had the stones to do it, but it would be commercial suicide. Imagine a game that you buy which tells you "sorry you sucked so bad in the second game that you lost your entire squad, you can only play 10% of this game before it comes to a halt". The outcry would be biblical.

For me that would be a major draw of the game - I care enough about taking my time (to OCD levels in some cases) and making sure my character does and says the right/wrong things to the right/wrong people. I even made sure that I kept everyone alive in my playthrough in ME2 (although I'm having to redo it again before release due to losing my savegames :().

The fact you could get everyone in your squad killed in the second game could only mean that in the third game they would either have a tokenistic part to play, or would be palette-swapped out with <generic replacement with the same role>. Bad news - you got Garrus killed but here's his twin brother we never told you about that has the same powers, VO and story influence!

The above all said I've pre-ordered it - I'm invested enough in what I've played in the first and second game to want to play it through to completion. There's something to be said about the ability to bring a character through 3 games which is attractive and different enough to forgo the obvious weakness in a story that has to accommodate terrible players.

Yeah I did too, through Origin as well just to make my downfall complete, pretty much for the same reason, just to complete the trilogy and try out the mp side of it. Definitely won't be buying any DLC any time soon, if ever.

mart_ocuk on origin if anyone wants to play multiplayer when it's out.
