****MASS EFFECT : ANDROMEDA****

One thing that is highlighted in both is that gameplay failings are often carried by story (ignoring the mess that was the end of ME3). Will be interesting to see the balance in Andromeda.

Same thing happened with Bioshock Infinite, gameplay was meh, but the graphics, setting and story were so awesome I didn't care :D

Apologies if these have been posted before but if you have some time on your hands here are some really decent decompositions of ME1 and ME2, which cover a lot of the problems in those games:

Thanks for sharing those. Looking forward to sitting down and watching them. Cheers!

A handful... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I've gone from excited to on the fencer, will certainly wait until this is out now.

Dragon Age Inquisition had more than a handful!

Months and months ago they were harping on about this truly being a vast open universe with exploration and finding new colonies being key. These last few weeks as the videos started showing, has got me more concerned with each one. The early focus seemed to be all about gunplay, skills, profiles - nothing or very little about exploration, lore, story telling. And now 3 weeks before release we finally hear "a handful of beautifully crafted planets for you to land on". So the other 95 will be just a button press scan, but don't worry everyone, your adventure really starts on the few that we hand crafted, there's no adventure outside of that, only where we hold your hand and force you to go, providing you with everything you need at your finger tips with your AI telling you exactly how to find things and how to use everything to advance the story. :(

Exploration was so key wasn't it years ago in the early conferences to drum up interest, and now this. A generic space shooter with layers of fluff, I just expect this to be such a disappointment for old skool ME fans that had been really looking forward to exploring and story telling.

Mass Effect is gone, with each one it gets worse. I have a pretty good idea of the target audience now...it's a 12 year olds game with the depth of a puddle, I can totally feel how its shaping up.

Come on Star Citizen for the love of god. Give me that universe that I can choose to explore freely and let me carve out my own path and future.

If it's a handful of planets that are huge I won't mind so much on other hand if it was hundreds of planets with let's say 1 venue to explore would get boring

Hmm re-watching that video and the opening scene my guess is that the 100 planets just make up the Helius cluster, orbiting a black hole, i.e. one tiny part of Andromeda.

The Remnant artifacts will end up unlocking either a mass relay or the Andromeda equivalent into the rest of the galaxy, which will be the sequel.

I have had concerns we could be getting a massive yet lifeless game where the story feels almost unimportant or secondary to the game, I feel a little better about it now.

Open world 'do whatever, whenever you want' exploration is not what I really want from a Mass Effect game. 50 - 60 hours of 'Woah! that was awesome!, lets do it again!' beats 200 'well I've finally seen everything i'd better finish the story' with baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire.

Half a dozen large unique planets with interesting side quests, lore and interactions in addition to some space stations, asteroid belts and derelict ships to discover that help flesh out the universe but are in addition to the main narrative and locations and I'll be happy.

Although if it wants to do a Witcher 3 and wrap an excellent story, setting and open world game into one 150 hour package I will not complain!

Agree with this

I'll take a handful of well crafted planets over a universe full of empty ones

I'm really hoping this turns out to be good, although I enjoyed Technomancer so my standards are low:D

5+ planets that have interestin story/lore character progression + side missions gathering missions is fine by me.. be realistic people.. if u want 100+ planets to explore you'll be bored after 20..

people will slate this game no matter how good it is. ive booked tues wed thurs off work so will be enjoying it as i loved previous games but will not be comparing them at all!

I agree with you, but when the marketing machine spouts that the game will feature 100s of explorable worlds and it turns out to be less than 10, it's a bit annoying.

To be fair, my personal expectation of exploration in MEA was nonexistant - or rather, I was expecting it to be ****.

They keep harping on about it but overall in a singleplayer experience with focus on story and characters it's likely to be limited and also probably some or quite a bit of grind involved. However if it can recapture some semblance of what made ME1 special then I'd be satisfied, even with the arcade mechanics. Given what we've seen so far it looks like it should at least do better than ME1 in that aspect.

In any case even if the singleplayer fails, the success of ME3MP almost guarantees that MEAMP will be worth the full retail price of the game. I certainly intend to have a blast in multiplayer.

Of course, SC should walk all over it and any other game when it comes to true exploration once 3.0 hits, no question.

Still trying to avoid spoilers:o but just wanted to agree with those whom enjoyed ME3 MP.

I've just started my ME3 REPLAY (which seems to run much better via backwards compatibility? everything seems smoother? any one else found this or am I imagining it?:o)

I haven't played the MP for years but thought I'd try it again and have really enjoyed it so the pre order will be worth it for me if ME:A MP is a more polished form of ME3 MP:cool:

I have hope that once ME:A launches a lot of the concerns will be eased but I really think it will come down to our own expectations.:)

I've got all the ME games, never finished one of them. No doubt I'll buy this and play it for a few hours never to return :p
