****MASS EFFECT : ANDROMEDA****

One comment that has me slightly worried is the whole once your 10 hours in things start getting better, surely you want most of the good stuff within those first hours to get people hooked then die down slightly and build up again for the finale.

It was the same with Inquisition. A boring 10 hours where you consider trading the damn thing in whilst there's still some value too it, then the game seems to start.

Have to say, rather put off by these reviews. Such an enormous fan of the series, but going open world was such a dumb idea. The sense of scale in the original trilogy was conveyed through excellent writing and pacing, not some vast landscape with seemingly arbitrary side quests scattered about it like every other RPG these days.

Dammm, was planning to even take the Friday off and had already pre-ordered it. I reckon I will still enjoy it once I get engrossed, but these reviews are really off putting.

Animations and what not really remind me of the plasticy look in inquisition the humans had. Sucks. but will be passable for me as long as everything else is okay.

Without being too spoilerific, does the game actually have an underpinning (main) storyline, or is it just a series of seperate quests that you discover while exploring? I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but it all seems rather vague and directionless.

Honestly think some people are over reacting, when I'm playing the game I don't see half of the mistakes the videos have pointed out. I've maxed out my play time on the trial and pre-ordered it for £44.99 off origin itself. Besides you can't judge a game like this by 10 hour gameplay not even that really...the trial is over before it begins really. Anyhow I'll be writing my review on a website I write on, keep an eye out I'll post it here when it's done, obviously the full game not the trial ^^

Curious why you would not only pre order a digital title thats already installed, but also pay around a tenner more than most places are selling it for?

For me both story and gameplay went downhill after the first game. From gameplay all I wanted was more rgp, levelling and upgrades etc. Instead they stripped it all out. Also I enjoyed exploring different systems, that was kind of gone to. I enjoyed scanning planets and looking for stuff. I just wished they had improved upon that. Obviously combat needed improvement, but not at the expense of above. But by far the most important for this franchise imo is story and to me ME2 and 3 were no way near as good as ME :(

I'm with you mate. I only played all of the original trilogy for the first time last year and enjoyed ME1 the best - I actually liked the combat in the first one too - there was something very satisfying about using the pistols, shotguns and grenades that wasn't replicated for me in 2 & 3 and I loved finding the levelled up guns, ammo and armour. I rarely even bothered levelling up my gear in 2 & 3. Another vote for the Mako from me too - enjoyed my time driving around in it.

IMO the combat in Mass Effect 1 is rather dated RPG combat, even downright poor. Mass Effect 3 played as good as an action game but Mass Effect 2 is my favourite, great balance between gameplay and the RPG/story elements that 3 was lacking.

What is 'RPG combat'? Currently playing ME1, seems like normal cover shooting and then a bit of pew pew in an uncontrollable tank.

Where RPGs have really crap combat compared to action games of that era. I haven't played Mass Effect 1 recently but have after 3 come out and thought it was crap then. I might just be being extremely harsh.

The best, and most accurate description of Mass Effect :D It's such an awesome game and the 'clunky controls' are often over exaggerated.

I've just installed Mass Effect again, along with an Xbox 360 controller mod, hoping it's a bit better.

Surprised to see a big gap between the 1070 and 1080, yet very little going up from 1080 to 1080Ti at 4K when you look at minimums.

I don't think it's 'that' optimized yet sadly. No doubt we'll get some new drivers this week for launch.
