****MASS EFFECT : ANDROMEDA****

Played about 30 mins and yes the facial animations are poor for such a big name title, I can probably ignore that in the long run, at least enough to finish the trial.

The big question.... male or female character, I always played a male shephard and I am not sure where to start with this.

Go with Scott Ryder (Male character), Sarah Ryder (Female character) seemingly displays more instances of bugginess that'll ruin your immersion easily (unless you're the easy going type on matters like that).

I take it back about the facial animations not bothering me because they are now that I played a bit more. Not sure if it's the custom character I created which looks **** btw but will see how it looks if I switch to default rider.

The bit where rider finds out
that his dad has died saving his life he has stupid looking grin like a dentist has asked him to show his teeth
completely pulled me out of the moment which is supposed to be serious / sad.

I never buy these games full price anyway. Always wait a bit for the price to be around twenty quid on Cdkeys. Maybe by then a few more patches will sort it out.

Only thing I bought on release (preorder) was BF1.

Honestly think some people are over reacting, when I'm playing the game I don't see half of the mistakes the videos have pointed out. I've maxed out my play time on the trial and pre-ordered it for £44.99 off origin itself. Besides you can't judge a game like this by 10 hour gameplay not even that really...the trial is over before it begins really. Anyhow I'll be writing my review on a website I write on, keep an eye out I'll post it here when it's done, obviously the full game not the trial ^^

It all depends on what bothers someone.

Some will play for just the gameplay, whereas others will play more for the story & immersion in the world.

The various animation problems & glitches during most of the character scenes break that.

After playing the trial for around 6hrs & watching a few videos that are much further on in the game, it definitely could have done with another 3 months in development for more polish.

But with March being the end of the financial year, that was never going to happen.

Hopefully they'll patch out most of the problems over time to improve the overall immersion.

You could argue that the first Mass Effect has the worst gameplay (but probably the best story) and gradually the gameplay improved as the series went on, but I would have thought it was the story of Shepherd that pulled people in and not the third person shooter elements

For me both story and gameplay went downhill after the first game. From gameplay all I wanted was more rgp, levelling and upgrades etc. Instead they stripped it all out. Also I enjoyed exploring different systems, that was kind of gone to. I enjoyed scanning planets and looking for stuff. I just wished they had improved upon that. Obviously combat needed improvement, but not at the expense of above. But by far the most important for this franchise imo is story and to me ME2 and 3 were no way near as good as ME :(

The RPG element certainly was massively simplified, but combat, navigation etc improved a huge amount.

I spent hours in the bloody mako in the original game...Ok they replaced it with a planet scanning mini game that was just as bad, but at least it was slightly less time consuming.

So many identikit rooms and buildings in the original game.

I enjoyed the time in the mako. They just needed to improve it. Like making more unique things to explore rather than identical rooms. Improve that, combat and improving the rpg elements would have made me a lot happier.

In the end I felt like no levelling stuff and a much poorer story made me feeling like why am I playing this, so sad :(

I loved the trial and as someone who plays these games for the immersion, the animations really haven't bothered me at all. It's mostly the human ones that are an issue as the alien animations are generally very good. To me this seems like a typical massive internet drama over not a whole lot. It's mostly at the start as well as a bit later you meet and talk to more aliens.

Coming off of recently finishing Mass Effect 1 and 2 I also can't see a real problem with the writing. There are a lot of corny action film one liners but that seems to be what they are going for imo. It's taking itself a lot less serious this time for sure.

A problem I noticed was that after someone finished a line, there was sometimes a long pause before a character responded which broke up the flow. This again seemed to happen mostly at the start and it got better as the trial went on.

Looks lovely as well and plays well at 3440x1440 on my rig. Easily over 60fps all the time on ultra.

Combat was great, the smoothest and most polished so far in an ME game. There seems to be a lack of slots for skill/abilities. Maybe this increases as the game goes on.

No Garrus or Jack yet but a couple of the characters have some potential. Typically the human's are the least interesting to me and I mostly ran with an alien crew in the other ME games.

Would it be fair to say that they have compromised on story telling and immersion, in favour of a more action focussed experience? I'm very much on the fence about buying this. I like a good story first and foremost and from what I've seen, Andromeda doesn't deliver that in the same way the previous games did.
