Massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake In Turkey

There’s loads of appeals already going. Just googled donate to turkey and quite a few popped up. However, the cynic in me says they might be using it to get more cash in to help with their costs as 100% doesn’t go to the relief efforts.

Hopefully something official will be launched quickly

Wow even Cyprus has offered assistance!

The government of Cyprus has offered to send help to Turkey – a rare step from a country that Ankara refuses to officially acknowledge. In a statement issued by the island’s ministry of foreign affairs in Cyprus’ officially recognised Greek-populated south, the government expressed its “deep sadness for the numerous victims of the earthquakes.”

The comments of "omg how did you know", "spookily accurate" etc etc

No mate, it's called science, I expect there has been a steady, consistant increase in seismic activity in the region recently so it was literally only a matter of time.
If you look at his feed, they use psuedo science that isn't actually science but speculation based on planetary alignments to predict their earthquakes, many of which are failed predictions, it's more a case of this guy being a broken clock that is correct twice a day

7.8 and then 7.5 is particularly nasty especially in regions like Turkey/Syria where building codes are probably lax when it comes to building with consideration for EQ's

The destruction is horrible :(

Was reading that it’s really unfortunate series of events where the first quake tipped the second that has potentially been building for centuries over the edge followed by a sizeable winter storm for the region. So many people to rescue, it’s hard to imagine the scale.

How is that building still standing, the one on the right of sports pitch. Looks like its leaning about 45 degrees

There seems to be a few that have just turned into leaning Towers

This hospital is another

Imagine if there's further high strength aftershocks they won't stay wonky for long

I mean where do you even start.

I’m sure many of our buildings would struggle with that magnitude.
I'm no expert but given most buildings seem to have fallen sideways and not just fallen straight down it might be easier for rescuers to find people as the rubble is less densely concentrated

Where do you even take all the injured if the hospitals are literal death traps now ?
