Massive Car insurance costs?

I don’t know what to do, Privilege want 80% more to renew this year. Got quotes via confused / moneysupermarket / admiral direct etc. and everyone wants more than even Privilege are asking (was £366, now £600 odd). Nobody is willing to budge on price and none of my circumstances have changed. Car is a Tesla model 3 performance. Fully confirms my thoughts that insurance is an absolute con. Average increase according to the ABI is 16-20% on last year. Half tempted to complain to the ombudsman what with this blatant profiteering going on!

You're doing well mines upto 800 from 500 odd for that car, and it's not like I live on a rough council estate. Imo 20 quid a year a reasonable for no circumstances changing but this is just profiteering. Stupid law not giving new customers discounts, it's a licence to print money.
I wonder if I change my gender to attack helicopter as they can't be involved in many car crashes  .

Tesla seems to be in a world of their own insurance wise. With the recent offers on their inventory cars I ran a few quotes and it’s more than double to insure than any other car I’ve run.

I'm sure I've seen that they're very easy to write off due to the costs to fix anything. Which would explain it.

Yup. Pretty much any battery damage and they'll write it off which usually means a £50-£80k payout.
I'm sure I saw a pic where the battery is outside of the wheelbase to maximise the capacity so in my mind, and small 'fender bender' is going to damage the cells. I'm sure I also read that tesla don't do partial replacement of cells, they just replace the whole think, but I'd like to see that change.

Bit of a bump, had my renewal through from Hastings.

Last year £362
Renewal £510

No claims, no tickets, haven't moved, going to ring them later but pretty miffed.

Mine was similar,

Last year was £250
Renewal £442

Phoned them up and called them out on it and they offered me a further £100 off which brought it down to a reasonable (but still an increase) £342.

I think a lot of companies are just playing the game. There will always be a couple of companies who see this as an opportunity to get some customers so will undercut the rest. The industry is just so oversaturated it will balance out eventually.

Mine has gone from £500 to £700. The same insurer wants £900

Just got a quote for £600 starting in a month. So cancelled my current policy and started new one in a month.

Looks like the longer you wait the more expensive the policy gets.

When I had my Golf GTD, going to a Polo GTI was a “Refund”

When I did quotes for a PP GTI it was quite abit more expensive than the 2.0 Polo.

However now I’m renewed, if I entertained a PP GTI I’m entitled to a £125 Refund… No logic on this one I must say.

Again though no surprise to these eye watering costs… My next door neighbour for example was driven into by a new driver last Sunday and the car is drivable but a smashed headlight and dented wing.

Since the accident they have been in a £237 per day Mazda 3 whilst the insurance company haven’t decided on to repair it not, not been out to see it or even collected it.

They don't bother with anything sensible like that anymore, just get you to take some completely useless pictures and send them to them which they then forward onto the garages to get quotes.

Then when the garage finally actually gets your car in to repair it it takes twice as long because obviously there's plenty of damage underneath the bits you can photograph... Ask me how I know this :o :D

It really is a sad state of affairs these days.

Let me guess, took more than double the expect initial ETA and then some more…

But no wonder costs are spiralling out of control and all the companies involved are simply quids in.

With all the daily charges, hourly labour rates it really is “time is money” no doubt everything is dragged out.

Yep pretty much bang on twice as long but when it had already taken 7 months for them to actually source one part it didn't feel like it was that much longer

my insurance company of years will not renew mine they say i dont fit their new criteria.

i do have a diesel maybe its that.

My renewal from admiral came in at nearly £800. I only paid £500 last year. No accidents, nothing has changed. Absolutely mental increase. Called them and they had a feeble go at 'inflationary costs', didn't really have anything when I pointed out that inflation ain't at 60%!
Requoted elsewhere and got it for £400
