MasterChef - back, bigger, better?

The mackeral wrapped in bread - although a straight copy from Great British Menu (minus some gooseberry relish!) still showed some great culinary ability and I can't recall seeing any purely original dishes that were successful either!

The only original dish last night was that trifle

which was an abomination.

My mate Tim went through last night - he's the American guy. So happy for him - he's so passionate about cooking but needs a break.

That was boring and I read a magazine through most of it. Roll on next week when the fun really starts.

Masterchief is one of my favourite shows, however this year it seems to made by the same team that made xfactor :(

Tell me about it. Complete and utter twaddle, and this is coming from a big Masterchef fan.

I just hope the future rounds aren't so awfully done.

I loved Masterchef. Really one of the best programmes on TV in the original UK format.
I've caught snatches of MC Australia, New Zealand and possibly USA... and its an absolute travesty of modern TV. I saw a couple of episodes of the new UK one last week and it was ruined but tolerable... it will only get worse. What a shame.

TV is rubbish...

At least they are not all smug retards so far. Unlike the foreign X-Chef versions.

I preferred the previous format. This one has far too much about the people and not enough cooking. The producers certainly love timing the beats of the music to pepper grinder clicks and mallet wacks!

I am angry already, the lad copying Kenny Atkinson of Great British menu with the Mackrel wrapped in bread!!!!!

Yes and Greg and John said they'd never seen that before?!?!

Masterchef Australia, especially the most recent series, was fantastic.

The hosts have a lot to do with how the show 'feels', the Aussie hosts were all so personable, whereas I can't stand John Torode and to a lesser extent Greg Wallace. There's something much more cold/clinical about the UK version, the Aussie version is just somehow better.

Been watching Masterchef New Zealand, which is essentially the same format, set, style as the Aus version, but is somehow rubbish. There's just something about the Australian one, they nailed it.

One of the best shows on TV, near ruined with this new format.

Hope it gets better, though don't hold much hope after watching last weeks 2 shows. Awful.

The new format seems a mish mash of the old one and the Aussie one.

The Aussie one was great, wife and I really enjoyed it. The short dude made me laugh bobbing up and down everytime he got excited - which was a lot :)

Watched the first ep, didn't really pay attention to the 2nd.

My mother doesn't like the bloke with the glasses - she reckons he got in trouble with the law over something lewd. Don't know what she's on about though.

Gregg Wallace is a bit of a cad by all accounts. He likes em young, not sure if it was related to this.

I'm enjoying this show still and will carry on watching it, I just felt the previous incarnation was a bit more intimate and focused.

Tbh the old format of the show was much more interesting, much nicer to watch. The new one just makes me want to punch the judges, I despise the way they talk already and I've only seen a couple of episodes.

I have always enjoyed Masterchef but was a bit put off with last weeks rounds in front of the audience, I don't know what to expect really?

Agree there totally. Not sure wether it's just the editing but a lot of the decisions they made seem vary...no consistency between what they do for one person and not another

edit - sorry about that thread in GD, couldnt see if you were being serious or not :D

Although I agree the new format is very different to the beloved, tried & tested method - I don't think it "ruins" the show: the main elements are still there and all beautifully complimented by an excellent soundtrack! :)

The new format certainly won't have me switching off - though I don't particularly care about the contestant's history or Greg/Torode's banter.

Good music - Come in - Cook Food - Fit as much as possible in mouth - like/dislike -end.
