MasterChef - back, bigger, better?

Feels stage managed to try to illicit tears. Why do the contestants need back stories, makes me wonder if they put through contestants who will be "interesting" instead of good cooks.

They did go overboard with the tears last night. Judging by some of the contestants reactions you would have thought they’d had just lost a loved one. Hopefully now that the no-hopers have gone it can settle down to something more normal.

Yup...Am I the only one that thinks "how pathetic/sad/fake and over the top" people are when they say this will "change their lives" or "the most important thing they have ever done"?

I mean come on...must have a pretty sad and boring life if this is it? I bet 99% of the people who get pretty far in the competition dont do anything with cooking once they are finished

How can you not even cook a potato.. then cry about it... and how could you possibly have 20 people queuing up to give you their food that would be stone cold by contestant 10...All it needs is someone to come on now and say "i really need this, I'm doing it for my dead father who always wanted to be a chef, but was tragically killed peeling potatoes"

You know what? I am watching this on iplayer and i only just got to this bit and there was actually someone, yep her haha, that came out with the whole dead relative crap...

How predictable are these reality shows now :)

ill check her roast out shortly

It's just not as good now...whats wilth all the dark and moody lighting.

Far too X-Factor now.....there was nothing at all wrong with the format and why the hell is it on at 9pm instead of 8.

Great family viewing now all dark and moody and on at 9pm....madness.

I think it’s all a bit too OTT and mostly part of the act but I have a sneaking suspicion that some of them actually believe it.

Yeah probably :(

Shame about that girl who cooked the duck, I though it looked great

The girl or the duck? ;)

I know you like your asian ladies :p. Anyway her duck was an abomination to be frank. So much unrendered fat under the skin, I was surprised they didn't pick up on that. She needs to learn the cold pan method.

Wouldnt say no to either ;) Didn't see the fat on the duck, I was distracted with Minecraft >.<

Preferred it a bit last night but tbh it's not a patch on the kids Australian MC that's on at the moment. You just have to love George and Gary, and maybe Matt... but the kids are fantastic cooks for some that are 9!! It's no where near the UK kids one that was on CBBC, one of them cooked a ballantine of chicken last night and someone else tempered white chocolate ffs! :\

OK now I retract my previous comments - the cute girl with the duck, and some friendly guy with some skills went out but the sob story + the disastrous italian lady go through?

Come on John & Greg: you've ballsed this one up too far now.

The "cute" girl with the duck, I thought her meal was the best out of the lot, had the woman judge on being there I reckon she'd have gone through.

She didn't seem to like the fact it wasn't an "English" roast, I thought taking the English meat and veg and adapting it to suit her style was very good.

Didn't think much of the two they let through, also not keen on the new format.

What's with the Gregg likes 'em young comment? :D

Also the new style and format of the show, hmm, don't mind it too much.
