Masters of the Air 2023

Finished watching this yesterday, it was good but not great. Pointless comparing it to BOB.

I think for me, like others have said, I struggled to connect with any of the characters and I think it was poor in that regard. I get that the nature of sending up people and most of them never comes back is part of the problem, I think they would have been focused on those at the base who watch these guys go out and few return, like they did with Crosby. Perhaps it was me but they seemed to do that more toward the end of the film. I also often found that the air masks during the flight made it difficult to know who was who, and not as bad but on the ground too many look the same.

CGI was a bit ropey but I can cope with that.

I found it frustrating that the Sandra story just seemed to just end. Almost as if it was poorly edited out.

Doubt I would watch it again anytime soon, unlike BOB which I will watch again soon with my son.

Felt rather rushed but I still enjoyed it, could have easily done about 15-20 episodes covering all that they went through.

I couldnt help but think at the end what them pilots must have felt to be flying home and to have lost so many, very brave people that is for sure.

Good to see they went on to live long life after, sad to see Gale lose his wife though 8 years after marriage.

I thought Austin Butler was brilliant loved him in Elvis and done well here, also Callum Turner was good.
If Bob and Pacific managed to tell a bloody good story in 10 episodes, why couldn't this. Pretty sure the guys in Normandy and the Pacific went through more than what these pilots did. Not knocking what the pilots did but this series could have been much better.

they were, both bob and pacific were 10 episodes each

Edit: ahh you mean MotA wasnt. I get ya, thats where they probably went wrong then.

Yep, MotA needed more episodes to flesh things out, especially the characters and additional storylines they introduced half way. 10 episodes would have been perfect I think.

This was disappointing but it's given me a desire to rewatch BoB and Pacific again as I've only watched both of them when they first aired. Just seemed like they paid too much attention and time to a lot of unimportant things and it was difficult to feel any connection to the characters.

I raelly wouldn't bother wasting any more time on it.
Such a shame. 100th Bomb Group is local to where I grew up, the museum in the original control tower is lovely.

If they were to line up the cast and give me a character name, I would just have to point and guess...

Yeah, I really wanted to like it but I couldn't get away from the fact it just wasn't very good, once you've seen the air combat (which isn't that great TBH) a few times, it's a slog to get through. There were two left when I gave up and I wished I'd have quit sooner.

I finally finished it. I was waiting to watch it with one of the kids but they lost interest.

It's less than the sum of its parts. I don't think it's as bad as some of you make out. But I do agree it really spread itself way too thin. For all the detail and research it just fails to make any meaningful impact.

Finally polished this off my watchlist, was decent but other shows airing show parts of this off as being rather basic. CGI was decent for the most part but I felt like they could have done more especially with it being Apple and the quality they usually put out especially with the air battles.

As with most of these shows was good to see the real people and what happened to them at the end, this won't be like BoB for me that I can rewatch every now and again.

Finally got around to watching this.

Was very good, as expected. Band of Brothers is still the best out of the three, but i think i enjoyed this as much as i enjoyed The Pacific (which i also thought was very good).

Just high quality, well done productions all round.

Loved the score and main titles music especially.

I do understand some of the criticism about it perhaps needing a bit more fleshing out/could have done with more episodes. The Red Tails introduction and scenes did seem a little rushed/shoe horned in.
