I have waited to say something till after the last episode. Now its over here is my 2 pennies worth.
I have a fair bit of knowledge of the 8th AF (mainly through my researching the 96th Bombardment Group) before this series. While it has been a enjoyable watch, there has been a lot of historical inaccuracies. Biggest issue for me was the portraying of the B-17s. All that was portrayed throughout the whole series were B-17F, these were changed for B-17G from August 1943 as groups lost 17F in combat. The 17Gs had a chin turret to counter the head on attacks by the Luftwaffe. While it did not stop that tactic but it helped.
Another example of the inaccuracies 44-8824 (Mike) which at the end of Ep 9 Cleven and Egan flying off into the sunset back to the US aboard was portrayed as a 17F when in fact it was a G, it also was portrayed in having a ball turret when in fact it did not as it was a PFF aircraft that had a radar in its position. Also that plane was handed over to the British in June 1945 and flew to the states in Dec 1945 a long time after the 100th had departed Thorpe Abbotts. The 17s did not all fly off in 1 formation back to the states as shown they went back in dribs and drabs. Some 17s were transferred to the 9th AF in Germany for use as POW transport etc to later return back to the states or even be scrapped in Europe.
In the episode where the mechanic fixed the magneto aboard 42-3233 Our Baby on the way to the runway, while this did happen but not the way the episode showed. In the episode it was portrayed that the plane was 7th out, but Major Gale Cleven was mission commander for that raid so was first out (this information can be found on the 100th BG own web site). It is also the mission when he was shot down.
I could go on and on. They had a long time to get these sort of issues ironed out seeing it was filmed before / during / after covid. But its made for Hollywood.

It was a good show overall. It's no BoB obviously and it'll be extremely difficult today to produce something as good as that. That final episode was probably the best one but the speed at which certain characters got home felt incredibly rushed and emotionless when they did see their comrades.

Yeah, same as the ones who got snuggled out. Suddenly they were home.

Enjoyed the last episode though. Last 2 were probably the strongest but I can’t see me rewatching the series for a few years at best

Yeah there were so many time hops.

Though I enjoyed seeing the last part where it told you what they went on to do. I’m glad most of them went on to have long successful and happy lives

Quite enjoyed this, not as much as BoB or the pacific but a good watch imo.

I can't decide which of the three shows has the best intro music!

One of the things that cannot be replicated from BoB is the fact it has the actual people talking, according to a quick google search only 119k are still alive today.
I watched the series and it was really good compared to what else has been out in the last few years.
Would like to see something similar on Vietnam / Korea although i doubt that would happen as they're not as popular.

I never even heard of them until this show (that’s more of a reflection of my tiny bit of knowledge about the war than their involvement) so I read a bit about them on Wikipedia.

Seems crazy to me these guys wanted and were proud to serve America with how they would’ve been treated at home. But I suppose the alternative with Nazi Germany winning would’ve been worse than their current situation.

There's an amazing Emmy award winning HBO Movie called "The Tuskegee Airmen" from 1995 starring a whole raft of A-List Hollywood stars and it is, for me at least, is as good as '89s Oscar winning Civil War film "Glory" at representing the real struggle of Black military members against the racist views held by their own side. There was a later CGI-heavy version called "Red Tails" which is awful and I'd avoid that like the plague!

I thought it capped itself off with another rubbish episode. I especially liked the teleporting main characters. The info on the actual people during the credits was more interesting than the show.

Overall I found it quite disappointing, terrible cast and crap CGI. 5/10
Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Zero emotional impact.

The actual stories at the end of the last episode were the most interesting parts.

Really disappointed after looking forward to this series for many years. I guess it would never live up to BoB, but what we got was truly insipid.

Just finished Masters of the Air. 6/10 at best

Where "Band of Brothers" had subtlety, intensity and balance, Masters of the Air has cliche and predictability.

The whole "Red tails" arc was just totally unnecessary. It served no purpose other than to hit some studio set "quota".

Some of the main characters were just plain unlikeable.

Ho hum.

Last episode was by far the best for me, and no coincidence that it involved virtually no flying, as I said upthread, after the first or 2nd times the sortees all became samey, fly, flak, bomb, some come home some don't. This last episode was all about character interaction.

And it was only in the last episode that I started to feel a connection to buck, bucky, rosie and the navigator guy

It was made for apple TV.

For 99.99% of watchers, it doesn't matter that some of the planes had a front mounted turret and this was not portrayed, how many people watching would know that information. They didn't iron out those things because they were not an issue. Reading you post I'm not suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of being hookwinked or short changed by lack of historical accuracy. It was after-all a dramatisation.

Frankly, if the actual air battle scenes where anyway close to as they were portrayed, I'm absolutely amazed they managed to shoot down any fighters, and it seems to me, given the close formation they flew they had a higher chance of hitting the other planes in their formation.

As an interesting aside, for a short time my father worked on Flying fortresses at langford Lodge in Northern Ireland in or around WWII.

Just finished the series and while I didn't hate it, I gradually got bored of the series which is a huge disappointment given I had been excited about it for months.

Time hopping, lack of character depth and what I think was bad casting ruined the show.

I got totally lost at episode 8 and what they were trying to do here apart from to appease something, they'd have been better off focusing on the characters we were already invested in.

I think overall in the series 4 characters were relatable. They failed hard with what was possible. Settled at 5/10 for me.
