Matched betting - who's done it and who's good at it? (No Referrals)

nothing much for me - laying horses/trading pre race is my way just now.

Laying horses has been good money so far. risky liability wise but usually just 1 or 2 a day @£20 lay under 10.0 if over 10.0 I usually just do £10. Think it's 20 in a row now that have all lost! (i've won each one)

do you have a system or are you fluking it?

I tried paper trading multiple systems (I paid for one of them) and got excited just like you but they always seemed to fail and, as you know when laying, it only takes two wins (losses) to destroy your ego.

How long have you been doing it?

It doesn't seem hard to do at first, but considering you lay, say one a day at 8/1, you are risking a weeks profit (£140) on one race. The chances of you coming a cropper once are pretty high believe it not. An 8/1 shot has an 11.1% chance of winning. A lower price even more chance of winning. Over a week of bets, that 11% chance starts to look a lot more likely. Just one winner and you're down £20. Any more and you are suffering bad, unless you have a system to pick out lays, but even that will go wrong eventually.

You may have had 20 winners (or losers) in a row, but that'd only £400. It would only take 3 winners to blow that profit away. Even just 1 would knock £140 out of it. I dont want to **** on your parade, but it just won't work long term without a barrelful of luck, and layers (bookies) never rely on luck or they would be on a one way ticket to the poor house.

Yeah it's a shame this thread has died down so much :(

Had a killer month in December with one high earning £120 from a mug bet because City scored before I could lay the bet. A low was the lay odds of a horse massively shooting up and then the race starting, managed to lay mid race and lost £45 but rather that than the £100 I put down.

I'm well aware that a couple of winners would destroy the balance but for now I'm happy with it. Not a long term strategy, more something to do over the xmas holidays!!!:D:D

Also been following a "laying service" on twitter - they have had 50 out of 51 losers in a row or something. What their "system" is, I have no idea. I'm not paying for their service just following them.

I tend to look for horses that are changing trip/distance. trying something new (blinkers/nose straps) etc. Around the 6.0/7/8/9 etc. With at least 2 or 3 horses ahead in the betting. Also ones that open in the morning and drift all the way to the off. Nothing special, nothing great, nothing new.

A bit of fun for now. Started before xmas with £240 in betfair. Up to £640 just now. If I hit two loses and get back to my starting amount then time to call it a day. Bit of fun, nothing more, nothing less.

In terms of trading/scalping/swing trading, that's something I'm going to crank up this year. Mainly scalping here and there. Using Gruss software. Good demo.

I started matched betting on 16th December and am currently up around £300 which is a very promising start. Quite a bit has come from new account sign-ups but, as I already have accounts with loads of bookies, I've not been able to done as many as I would have liked. The BoyleSports crossbar challenge has been surprisingly lucrative!

I've also signed up to YesBets and am finding it very useful indeed.

Am doing Hills High 5 most days as long as the QL is relatively small but have struggled to hit anything the last couple of days.

Any chance of letting me in on this laying tipster? Would be interested to paper trade his selections for a while.

On the football side I started off with bad man tippster (dappa laugh's mate) but he had a horrendous run. This was April time and the bad run started during the Euro's. I was about £500 up in that time though. I then started with Football Fella on Facebook and I'm about £1000 up now. I think I am conservative though and miss some bets and it's frustrating when I lose.

You really shouldn't miss bets if you are following a tipster. They are all about long term profit, not get rich quick schemes, so you have to keep up with every bet or you will miss winners. Tipsters are a bit like a risky investment. Best to choose a good one who is making profit and stick with him for 2-3 years, A good tipster should get you about a 20-25% ROI, which is obviously far better than any bank will give you.

I like to think I'm doing well, I've paid off most of my tax bill with tipster winnings.

I can't really get all tips as betting sites are blocked in work and the current customer I'm working for don't allow mobile phones in the office.

I still think £1500 up or so in what, 9 months is pretty decent.

Well I did the £1 promo at Oddsmonkey and I must say that it sucks. Their oddsmatcher works well but doesn't hold a candle to Yesbets. At Yesbets you enter your stake, select bookie, select normal / snr / sr and hit search. It gives you a list of bets and what the profit or loss is. Oddsmonkey is a massive faff. They are missing a TON of offers from their calendar too. Wills' Hi 5 is a huge one. Not on there. Crossbar. Not on there. I can list loads more but the gist of it is that although it could probably be very powerful in the hands of someone with the know how and time (lots of time), Yesbets is a million times more convenient. Luckily it was only a quid. What a disappointment.

I think it's this company buddy:

https://twitter.com/racinglaybets?lang=en

Just going by the winning (losing) tips run he described. I might be wrong - I'd like him to confirm it.

Clicking on the results link on their service page doesn't exactly inspire confidence :p

but I don't give up that easily - I think I will paper trade with them for a while.

Oddsmonkey is only useful for the matchers they have

"racing lay bets" on twitter.

they offer a £1 trial for 7/10 days I think. They email out every morning 1 or 2 tips maximum. But generally post up on twitter at the end of the day the bets they have done that day.

They are 55 from last 56 winners.

I took the trial and was 19 for 19 winning lays. Think they charge £40 a month. Calling them tipsters is always just silly in my eyes. They are someone who puts maybe a bit more effort in and whilst they are "hot" they are hot. once they loose 3 or 4 over a day or so then it's done.

Probably making damn good money in the meantime!

Their results page doesn't work - Can you see their past results (and even more importantly the odds) if you subscribe? If not could you hazard the average lay bet risk/odds?
