matrix vs top

For 1375Mhz on the core I'm using 1.4v and the temp never goes above 72.c whilst remaining nice and quite. This is just setting the core to 1375 and the voltage auto increasing when locked to the core.

I could unlock and lower the volts but I have not bothered yet.

I think so I can ram quite high volts into this and it does not care. If I did the same to my reference it would melt.

The trade off for a highest base vcore, I had 3 Sapphire 7970 dual X's, 2 had ASIC's in the 60's, one in the high 70's. The 60's required 1175mv vcore at default, the higher ASIC card (the one I kept) runs on a much lower 1080, the trade off being this only clocks to 1200 at 1.25v compared with my others which would do 1275 at 1.3.

Nice GPU clock.:)

Give the memory some welly as well.:D

Fellow top owner here

Mines sitting at 1135 and 1450 on the memory out the box

Next step a VGA Hotwire mobo or bios flash to allow more volte :(

Isn't that bit of sacrilege running the memory at stock speed? :P

Im actually in the process of returning my TOP to get a Matrix. It was niggling me knowing I could have a the better card for so little more even though the top would have been more than sufficient.

Also be aware you are playing the silicon lottery with the Matrix too, mine maxed out at 1150 no matter what voltage I threw at it, although I reckon I had a dud as it would hit 80c+ while gaming and the fans would be going nuts, I ended up getting a refund.

You could say the same of the TOP or any CPU/GPU I want the Matrix more for the RAM as long as it runs at rated speed ill be satified although a decent overclock would be nice :D

Well yes. But the Platinum uses cherry picked GPU's so you would normally expect a much better clock, which is not always the case.

Do you think I would see much improvement over a stabdard 680GTX with Matrix?

Mainly play BF series and WOT.

Keep hold of your 680 and wait it out for 20nm Stanners. Swapping to a 7970 will make no difference to game play and you may see a swing to a couple of fps more on the 7970 but is that worth it to you?

I understand the upgrade itch and you may not have to wait that long for 20nm since TSMC have built a new 20nm factory to cope with demand.

My thoughts anyways.

I wen't from a 4GB 680 running 1150 Ish on the core to the 7970 Plat and tbh I would say on average the 680 feels smoother especially in BF3.

I was just playing around tbh. It's even more sacrilege that I'm now running the card at stock core and mem. To me I see no difference in game and at stock settings it bearly reaches 62.c under load.

I know your right, just getting tempted with the old itch!
