Mattresses - I need knowledge

Well i've now ordered the Leesa.

After a week and a half on the John Ryan one my wife has been in a lot of pain. Something she didn't have with the Sleeping Duck one. I'm hoping since the Leesa is more secure as far as the top bit goes that it won't form that weird lump and it seems to suggest they're a lot cooler.

The layers in the Leesa are glued together and then wrapped in the cover. It doesn't have a topper like the Sleeping Duck. I can't see that the top layer can be loose and ruck up like AndyCR15's Sleeping Duck.

Literally only 10 minutes ago the SD got picked up. I was their last job, that's still quite a late one! By the end it was looking like this -
You could really feel the ridge, but I cba to take the bedding off, unzip it and pull it straight, with the Leesa on it's way. You can just about see top and bottom it's pulled away from the edges.

will be interesting to hear if they say what was wrong with it - do they care about their customers ?

If this fails i'm going to just get the Premier Inn Hypnos one i think

did you see the Ryan 1500 origins comparison with the Premier Inn Hypnos https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/understanding-beds/premier-inn-mattress-review-alternatives/

...our model utilises three comfort layers against the unknown quantity of the Hypnos model. The first layer directly above the insulator is a 500 GSM polyester pad, followed by 750 GSM of very soft polyester to give resilience to the mattress without too much compression which can occur if just wool is used, finished with a 300 GSM wool layer for that soft sinking feeling in the very top later.

The only information about the upholstery layers for the Premier Inn mattress is that it has a pillowtop. We have written warning of the drawbacks from pillowtop mattresses as they are permanently stitched to the mattress so you can’t remove them. Due to the fact pillow tops are usually made from very soft upholstery materials they degrade very quickly especially if they can’t be turned, shaken and rotated.

The pillowtop is described as “a super-comfortable, thick wool mattress topper, creating a luxurious, extra-cosy layer. It also helps to regulate body temperature for a truly serene sleep“. Wool is a highly breathable natural material which is one thing we agree on with Hypnos. However, the rest of the description is too vague to give any detailed analysis. The fact it is a pillowtop mattress should cause you concern given our explanation on the drawbacks of this construction style. The photo below shows how it is attached.

Shock as John Ryan says their own mattress is better
yes - well they try to make a comparison, seems hypnos is not flippable either ..

however compared to Leesa/LD/Simba who are spending £250 per mattress on advertising (earlier post)
and delivering as a compressed article (the compromise on the materials quality cannot be offset by the reduced transport, or economy of scale these companies might have, Ryan like them don't have shops)
either Ryan or Hypnos , for me, are the more enduring bet.

New Simba advert on tv last night - their WHICH award (who subscribes to which ? unless you can see details - meaningless) their advertising strategy

We have the John Ryan Origins Latex 1500
this is disappointing though ... I had high hopes for latex, when I change.

Seconding a few posts in here. Got to say I love my Ikea mattress. Quite cheap and had a pretty decent warranty too. Think it was something like 10 years. Could be wrong...

Mine is 25 years, on an £80 mattress. I was fully expecting the Sleeping Duck to make the cheap Ikea crap feel like a bag of springs, and yet here we are. You could throw it away and buy a new one every year for that

Not saying it's the best made or best materials, but for the money I can't believe how comfortable it is, I do like a firm mattress though and prefer to 'float' on top of it rather than sink in like most of these foam things.

Filled in the SD return form, not heard anything about collection yet though. Did they leave you any proof of collection Andy? I'm super paranoid and SD state that they will only release the refund when they get conformation of collection from the courier, if something should go amiss I'd like to have something to say they've collected it.

No, maybe it was on here that we read that, as I was concerned too, but then I realise my video doorbell will catch it all. As posted, I have my refund already too.

Does anyone know where I can buy a Plastic Sliding Door for under the bed in the storage bit? Can't find any online or know what they are properly called.

Perhaps IKEA mattresses where better years ago. But not only are they utter garbage they don't last either these days. Can't believe people are happy with them.

Seems to go for a lot of Ikea stuff these days - used to be better quality now its sliding towards mass produced average quality.

I've ordered the John Ryan Origins Pocket 1500. Should be delivered within 3 weeks. It replaces my silent night matress which I've had many, many years and is past its best since one of my bed slats cracked. I'm going to replace that slat and put in some extra ones to reduce the gap between them.

Besides a timber yard (who wants £40 for 15 bits of wood) is there anywhere online that sells bed slats at a reasonable price? I've gone away from ordering a new divan bed from JR due to electrical socket locations in my bedroom, so need to make my current one fit for the job.

Well one night in and the Leesa is going back. Both my wife and i were roasting last night.

Lower the TOG of your duvet.

yes they are warmer. But changing the duvet WILL cure that. We've just put our autumn duvet on and its a bit too warm for me at the moment. The Mrs is happy but I'm a bit too hot at the moment.

The previous thinner duvet was fine.

Remove an existing slat, go to local hardware shop that sells wood (decent ones will cut to size), show them what you have and ask for however many you want! Done!

We’re still on our summer duvet which is about 4.5 tog. Our original pocket sprung mattress was fine as was the John Ryan. Just seems memory foam mattresses are really hot for us.

Then the TOG is still too much. Your summer duvet was fine with your other mattress but a 13.5 tog would have been too hot. That wouldn't have been the mattresses fault. In the summer we have just a sheet.

you can pick up a 1.5 tog duvet for buttons
