Mattresses - I need knowledge

I don't know if anyone on here with a foam mattress feels the same but a sensation that i've read that some people dislike (along with heat trap) is a feeling of sleeping in the mattress rather than a feeling of sleeping on top of the mattress that gets worse as it ages?

Not had that yet, but mines only three weeks old

I've been looking at memory foam mattresses for a while but the general concensus seems to be they're no good if you sleep on your side or are a to55er
Is that a reasonable conclusion ?

I bought a eve matresses last November and i regret it I'm a side sleeper now with a frozen shoulder which is no fun at all had it 8 months now.

First few months it was great but now it's soft in places and firm in other parts ****** I through away a good bed just for a change to foam now looking to replace it.

Still enjoying my Una latex one.
these look nice it's a dunlopillo sibling ? fo seeminly similar money.

evidently - you only realised there was an issue later.

with tempur you can lie how you want, it just takes time to adjust/mold to how you want to lay, but yes, if you move around they can become uncomfortable,
I guess you get accustomed to how they assimilatemold to you, but it feels odd if you only use one occasionally

More or less, just via the bed-in-a-box (or 3 boxes in this case) route and they’re open about it being 100% natural latex rather than not saying or it being a blend of natural/synthetic as the company is keen to promote it’s eco-friendliness credentials blah blah. I took a punt on it as I tend to run hot in bed and it being all allergen-free, mould/dust-mite resistant etc plus being able to alter the firmness level by putting either the soft or medium at the top in the mattress cover.

I’ve never been wow-ed sleeping in any bed and this was no different, but I’m not waking up feeling like I need by back cracked or achey so no complaints...

Did you not read any reviews before you bought it as it considered to be very firm and works best with a plush topper?

There seems to be a lot of complaints from the reviewers that the Eve keeps changing its specs and foam types and have even swapped around the foam layers but all the changes never make it any softer.

Ok hadn't looked closely enough at their site ... not heard of that strategy, and assumed it was delivered full formed https://unamattress.co.uk/mattress/
Now remove the organic latex layers from their boxes. Unwrap them, place each layer inside your mattress cover and unroll it until it is laying flat with the label facing up until all layers are stacked neatly in your preferred order of firmness with the edges lined up.
I probably need to read more .. but what stops the layers moving relatively, especially on a king+ ... tufting ?

Seems to be the consensus with these mattress in a box types. They are good for the first month or so. Then get worse with time and within 1-3 years they need replaced.

Pocket Springs and buy something 3-10 times the price.

I'm looking for a new bed, and my preference is a super king size pocket spring mattress with natural fibres. I looked at John Ryan and the Artisan cost is coming to £2800  Is there anything else out there that might be worth looking at, or is JR really that good? I was hoping to pay less than half that.

You can get it for £2200 if you go for a cheaper mattress.

Also they have a sale on their outlet right now.

I have the cheapest double and it's luxury. Best bed I've ever slept on, I can only dream of how good the more expensive ones are. If I had to go back, I'd spend more. But I wonder how much you spend before the returns diminish. They are also quite friendly, if you send an email.

yes checking - the earliest acknowledged Simba owner in this Doomsday thread had his 3 months ...can anyone beat that ?
We had a Simba for about 3 months, I really liked it by my other half was getting hip pain so it had to go back. The return was utterly painless though so it's worth getting one if only to see how you like it.

We have the Artisan Naturals Super King with the matching 4 -drawer sprung base. It is very, very comfortable and the closest I could find to it was one of the John Lewis Natural range, the mattress alone was ~£2500, and had less filling from what I recall.

Hidrasund from IKEA is aorund £800 iirc. I'd go for that for your budget. Has a 25 year guarantee.

Very helpful feedback everyone, thank you.

I've just had a look at the JR outlet but they didn't have the medium tension I was looking for.

So the Artisan Naturals super king size mattress is £1575 which is a stretch but it's comfort I'm looking for, so I don't mind paying extra for something that is worth it. It looks like the JR base, drawers and headrest were bumping the price up massively which are not really my priority. Would there be any harm in getting a cheaper base from somewhere else? My current bed is a euro king size, so I'm forced to change the base too and would rather go larger than smaller. I'll also see if I can get to Ikea to try out their mattresses.

another contender on my list , had not heard of them before the impressive tv programme about their uk manufacture/factory

interesting idea .. but maybe gimmick, of different seasoned sides.
I have never liked the sound of the different sided mattresses. Aren't you supposed to flip them fairly often? So you'd end up having to use the 'cool' side in winter. Plus if you didn't like the feel of one side as much you wouldn't want to flip it over.

agree it's more winter in the uk than summer and the lighter duvet only gets used, or just a sheet, for a couple of months;
suppose we rotate or flip every 3-4 weeks ... dam thing must be 80kg. ... changing the side you sleep evens out wear too. (it's like ssd levelling)
I would have thought during trial you could establish if one side is 'useless'

The cover's pretty thick and tight so when it's all zipped up it feels like a single piece.
