Mattresses - I need knowledge

So what’s the summary for a king size mattress? I’m looking to buy a new bed frame and mattress. What’s the one everyone is going for and highly rated, and where’s the best place to buy it? :)

Depends on the sizes of the people using it, how they sleep, hot/cold, side/back/front, roll around much, etc. I went back to a cheapo Argos one, it was £40 after nectar points and a work discount. It would be horrible if you weighed a lot however as it has barely any support, which is exactly what I need. Point being, it's a mine field when choosing!

No, couldn't be bothered. The email states that the dip is lightly within tolerances, and reading other reviews highlights the company's ignorance to try and address any complaints. Pre purchase I initially thought the complaints were probably related to heavy people, but it's clearly a design or quality control fault, I weigh 67kg. Any company worth a crap doesn't gaslight their customers.
So you complained, they other an inspection and you couldn't be bothered  At least give them a chance to solve a problem and then complain about them online

Also were you flipping the mattresses every few months like they suggest?

I wrote a review based on their behaviour, then posted here to show their customer service is laughable. Next time you're in for a mattress purchase go have a read of the reviews of JR and they show how an independent inspector showed up and said the dip isn't deep enough to count as a defective mattress. It's about principle and helping others not getting ripped off.

I've had mattress from them for the last 7 years, followed their guidance about flipping the mattress and it perfect. Wouldn't hesitate in buying another from them.

Our John Ryan super king size is excellent. Its two bases and two mattresses zipped together which makes rotation and flipping easier. We had it 10 years.

Has anyone had any dealings with Harry Benmore mattresses?

Just realised my old Otty mattress is 10yrs old now and my back pains aren't getting any better. I am a side sleeper, about 105kg so medium/firm is required I presume. Looking at best mattress for about £500 or so.

We want to get a new bed and mattress. Our bed was about a grand, so I really want to recoup some of that. Hard to get someone to buy it though!! And no doubt another mattress that I need to fold and put in the car, bah

If you buy a mattress that was comfortable and you loved 6-7 years ago then suddenly it’s not so great, buy the same one again. I think some people expect them to last forever

A £2k mattress over 7 years is costing you under £1.00 a night for a decent nights sleep under 50p each if two of you

Which of the John Ryan's is the "go to" these days?

Mattress has had a good run but after 20 years I think it's time to change

thanks, also since screw it as we are spending a fortune potentially, anyone use/rate their frames or would there be better value options out there?

Ideally looking at a 2+2 (continental) drawer divan style base I think.

I have the artisan naturals in superking and a john Ryan framen2+2 half and yeah I like them. Only thing on the frame is it has some ugly brown castors but otherwise quite comfortable. I did add a 300 quid topper to mine to make it feel softer though. I went for. Firm on my side.

I'm in need of a new mattress and want to try the trials again. We did try an otty I think it was in 2018 and it was absolutly stinking so bad you couldnt sleep in the room. Are they still a bit stinky these delivered ones. Currently got a 8 year old shannon 2000 pocket sprung with 75mm memory foam on top so ideally wanted the same but its not made anymore. Shame we dont get helix sleep in uk.

Swapping our Leesa after 10 years, it’s gotten too soft in the spots we sleep on. Tempur Pro Plus Medium arriving next week to replace it. Big fan of Tempur pillows, so hopefully the mattress is as good. We spent quite a while in the Tempur shop trying all the options. It’s mostly to address my wife’s hip pain she gets sleeping on the current mattress.

We were caught up in the initial wave of enthusiasm for John Ryan because of their perceived quality, transparency and detailed explanations.
We trusted them enough to buy four mattresses, ranging from their premium range to mid-range models for guest rooms.

Unfortunately, all four have deteriorated substantially within their warranty periods.

The bigger disappointment, however, has been the warranty process. Dealing with John Ryan has been an absolute nightmare, and I recognise some of the same boilerplate responses mentioned by others in this thread.

John Ryan referred us to Emmiera, their appointed commercial inspection provider - this is a for profit organization.

An example of their inspection outputs: Their own report records the mattress's condition, maintenance and environment as “GOOD”, yet a brief inspection and “lay test” was apparently enough to dismiss the warranty claim.

It leaves me questioning what practical value a 10-year warranty actually provides if significant loss of support within that period can simply be classified as wear and tear.

In short, I would avoid John Ryan. We bought four mattresses because we trusted the company; after experiencing both the long-term product performance and their after-sales support, I wouldn't buy from them again.

For a premium manufacturer, the warranty and after-sales experience has been appalling.

Our John Ryan hasn't lasted, looking for new now about 6 years in.

I'm at the point where spending a little less and replacing more often seems to be my best bet as I'm really sensitive to any loss of support.

I replaced my 2yr failed John Ryan with a budget Argos open coil one, haven't looked back since. And because it's thin and has barely any insulation, it's nice and cool. I'm over 1yr in now with it.

Yeah, after all the John Ryan love, ours hasn't been that good. Theres parts of it that are way softer than the rest and that started happening after a year or two.

Wouldn't bother spending all that money again. Its a bloody heavy thing as well but that doesn't seem to have helped it be any more durable.

I want a nice firm mattress. Maybe I will just get some MDF and put a sheet over it and see if the missus notices.
