May I present... my latest acquisition! :)

I had an l series for over 2 years and had not 1 problem. Can be tuned to 150bhp/250ftlb for about £500 as well.

At the last OcUK RR day I took my old 400 diesel with the L series, it made 130bhp / 193ftlb and cost 50 quid to get it there from 103bhp standard. Score :)

Thinking it needs a new MAF as over 3000rpm it drops off power, but no biggie. First proper drive last night, and it's fantastic.

Cheers for the comments, I know it's basically a 400 diesel but damnit, it drives goooood.

And I'm just so glad you've extensively driven a wide array of comparable cars for your budget before coming to that conclusion.

I'd wager that it doesn't drive quite as well as your fanboyism would lead people to believe.

That's because it's diesel so has megga time bending torque (I may have exaggerated somewhat) and stiffer suspension (I expect) than the 600, so course it'll be 'fantastic' in comparison.

They're quite rare, and bar the fogs it has everything the ZS came fitted with... even the cupholders! :p

When I was hunting and got the Ti, I drove a couple of Astras, a Mondeo 1.8 (the newer one, was up for £1650), a Saab 9000, Focus 1.6 and some other fairly ordinary stuff, nothing exciting but still think the ZS is a nicer drive.

Anyway, I didn't buy it to please other people, or I would have got a Mondeo 1.8 with 'all the toys'. I got a car I liked, for a decent price. :)

Edit: I used to think the same of the Zeds compared to the Rover versions, however it is totally different in drive and handling to my 400.

You could go for the mafless remap talked about on mg-rover.org. I've read good things.

Is it really worth taking that approach to his posts? Anybody that knows anything about cars will take that with a pinch of salt.

I'm invading my mates house with the missus at the moment, he's away for 3 weeks so not been home with the car yet to clean it properly.

The car park is surrounded by trees... getting up the hill out of it, in the wet with a mushy ground covering of leaves is fun! :D

It does actually feel pretty perky for a derv, sure it's had a decat as I can hear turbo whistle from the exhaust. Off for a remap in a couple of weeks to 140bhp / 240lbft to liven it up a bit!
