May i sum up CES 2017?

AMD gave some pretty big details on Vega, showed a 3.6Ghz base clock 8 core chip to be launched pretty soon, a bunch of motherboards, coolers and prebuilt systems to show it was just around the corner.

I'm not sure I'd say that was dull. Nvidia, well they detailed self driving car stuff which is no where near ready, and a internet gaming platform which appears to be targeted at people who don't currently game which offers higher latency lower quality more expensive gaming for people who aren't interested at current prices and better performance at a lower price............

Not sure why people think a 1080ti would be a big Pascal reveal either. Here is Titan X, at a lower price because we've already sold the majority of Titan X's we can so we'll lower the price now. New products can be interesting, rebranding never ever will be.

more pointless 4k tv's with no 4k content and a new hdmi standard which allows for 8k.

IoT in everything, a bed, a hairbrush, 'cus why the hell not?

In AMD's marketing video aimed at film industry, they were discussing how they're embracing 8k in their new hardware. It all seems a bit rash considering as we're yet to fully embrace 4k.

For those of us still watching broadcast TV, the HD channels aren't even 1080p yet... and most of the source material is recorded at 720p still.

So what the heck is the point of 8k...?

People chase technology. So as long as they build it, they will buy it, even if it is no use to them at all. People are stupid, didn't you know that?

the last two CES have been crap and the whole event is overrated

prefer computex as thats more PC focused but even 2016s one was crap

Ultimately its a tradeshow and not really there to entertain the masses heh.

bingo, by far the most populkar item is smart phone covers. thousnds of square feet of floor space dedicated to tiny chinese company making cases for you phone, and some car chargers and/or mounnts.

evrn if you go into the LG booth once ypu pasd the wall of curved 8K TVs therr is far more spae dedicated to dishwashers, irons, washing machines, microwaves, cat feeders, hair driers, infucyion hobs and the like.

its a trade show, not a technoligy conference.

Yeah they don't quite get the 'fun and interactive' part yet... just dress up smart and act like stoic businessmen. That'll get the ratings.

I watched most of the Samsung keynote, not doing that again - what stuck in my mind and what i cannot get out of my head is WHY THE HELL DO I NEED A TABLET ON MY FRIDGE!?

But going back to PC hardware, so much disappointment so far this year, so much hype train and it all got derailed

I wouldn't say it got derailed more like it's not travelling quite as fast :D

Still its guna be a nice year for gamers well, those that are currently prospering at upgrading.

The Samsung TellyFridge is the biggest single item of attention seeking since the invention of the flashing Santa garden sleigh. It has no functionality other than "look at me! I've got the moneyz".
