well, not a great car but compared to an rx8 its night and day better
depends on your budget, there are equally amusing cars for equivalent cash, although I'll admit looks wise the s2000 wins hands down (thinking mx5, z4, z3m etc..)

I bought a non turbo supra that is both slower, older and less equipped than an RX8 with equal running costs. Does this make me a moron for buying one?

That's hardly the topic of conversation is it, the point people are making is why the RX8 is cheap vs it's same aged competitors, it's simply because hardly anyone wants to take on the liability.
It's not a BMW or Vtec Honda, so that immediately puts you in the firing line on this forum

For me the the S2000 is flawed only by it's insurance group rating.

let me guess, fox also forces BMW's down people's throats at every given opportunity

Well most people can post nearly 30mpg on an average consumption with a mixture of driving so that is probably roughly 33-40% better than the average most people will get on a RX8.
So you can probably save £1000 there based on current petrol prices and average yearly mileage. Mine has had £200 in servicing costs in that time and I am fortunate to be on the same set of tyres I got with it originally. I can imagine a RX8 owned for the same period of 19 months would cost a lot more to maintain than that of my car. The engine in my car the M54 has built a reputation on reliability and very rarely has there been cases where it has gone wrong. So it may be far fetched to say they would work out about the same but with the risk factor of the engine failure you cant be far off.
The M54B30 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list through 2001-2003.

My friend had to pay on two occasions (£300 x2) to have the car repaired due to flooding it as it wouldn’t start a problem which is common with the RX8. Admittedly he didn’t know this was an issue the first time round and so learnt from his mistake and was much more careful and unfortunately couldn’t help the second time as his sister was driving and she was unaware too.
You have to be making that up. Its as simple as remove plugs, foot to the floor on the accerlerator and crank for 10 seconds, wait 20s and repeat, do it 3 or 4 times, next stick some 2 stroke in the plug hole for both chambers and crank again, add more 2 stroke, now refit the plugs. Chances are the car will now start if not repeat, never needed to do it more than twice.
You can also tow the car in 2nd for a bit, but this isnt as good for the cat.
