Mazda Rx-8 What to look for when buying ??

He makes it sound like it got be trailored because of no MOT and TAX or does he also mean it because the coils & plugs are gone

the management light is on but took to mazda dealer for health check which cost £59.99 they have said needs new coil pack and plugs
the car has got some service history but has no mot or tax so would have to be trailored for that reason

Sounds like the dealers say it needs new coil pack and plugs, dunno how much that is on an RX8 but on a Supra it isn't a small bill...

*edit*

Oh year its only a 4 pot lol, still a few hundred though...

Get a 3.0 litre Z4, much more fun, faster and better handling much better economy ive had one for 19 months and averaged 27.4 MPG since ive had it.

Last two thousand miles done on the motorway have all been between 36mpg and 37mpg.

My friend had one 6 months and hated it, the fuel economy was rubbish and it hated being started shortly after it had been driven making refueling a nightmare!

How much did that cost to buy?

Another poor driver spotted.

Also a silly person.

"Huurrrrrrr get a Ferrari F430 its faster!"

I mean I know Firestar has it covered and all, but still, the point needs to be made, suggesting a car that costs almost 3x as much as the one being discussed is p dumb. Also Firestar posts with a clinical accuracy that is often void of humour. I on the other hand post like a dribbling retard but people seem to like me and my posts so I dunno what ever.

Why didn't you just buy a new model one for 25k?

Or get a Zonda they are faster and better handling?

(I know this is repeating an earlier joke already made twice in this thread but I still haven't gone to bed yet and the RX8 owns)

Or maybe you are missing a point as i clearly said i bought it 19 months ago you can pick them up between 6 and 8k if you do a bit of searching, and yes fair enough that is still nearly twice as much as the RX8 but you will no doubt save that in the first 18 months of ownership what with running costs and servicing requirements on the mazda.

So assuming £3k for the Rx8 as above, you think it will cost £3-5k MORE than the Z4 to run for 18 months? From what I've read a new engine from mazda is about £3k or a rebuild £1500, so even worst case scenario you'd struggle to hit that figure and you'd have a fresh engine.

Far from put me off Rx8s this thread actually has me tempted.

Well most people can post nearly 30mpg on an average consumption with a mixture of driving so that is probably roughly 33-40% better than the average most people will get on a RX8.

So you can probably save £1000 there based on current petrol prices and average yearly mileage. Mine has had £200 in servicing costs in that time and I am fortunate to be on the same set of tyres I got with it originally. I can imagine a RX8 owned for the same period of 19 months would cost a lot more to maintain than that of my car. The engine in my car the M54 has built a reputation on reliability and very rarely has there been cases where it has gone wrong. So it may be far fetched to say they would work out about the same but with the risk factor of the engine failure you cant be far off.

The M54B30 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list through 2001-2003.

Applications:

2000-2005 E46 330i/330xi
2000-2006 E46 330Ci
2000-2003 E39 530i
2000-2002 E36 Z3 3.0i
2003-2005 E60 530i
2003-2005 E85 Z4 3.0i
2004-2006 E83 X3 3.0i
2001-2006 E53 X5 3.0i
2003-2006 E60 530i

My friend had to pay on two occasions (£300 x2) to have the car repaired due to flooding it as it wouldn’t start a problem which is common with the RX8. Admittedly he didn’t know this was an issue the first time round and so learnt from his mistake and was much more careful and unfortunately couldn’t help the second time as his sister was driving and she was unaware too.

Dont buy an RX8.

Not even worth it if you can afford to literally flush money down the toilet.

All cars cost money mate. They are not investments. The problem with the RX8 is not the car, its the people that buy them, some guy stacking shelves at Tesco could probably buy one yet they can't afford to run a sports cars so cry like a baby about the fuel cost and say the car is rubbish as a result. You don't see people with SL55's, M3', or STIs etc crying because they are expensive cars to run and similar MPG, because they can afford it and bought the cars for the performance.

For the money you can get one now, they are the best car for your buck. You have to spend double to get something as good or better (or as listed above).

I'd go for one with lowest mileage possible and it will be fine. These knackard car's selling for £2k on ebay with "battery problems" (yeah right) are going to be more trouble than they are worth. To be honest they give the well maintained ones a bad name.

Buy one, enjoy it, then join the rest of the population and buy a diesel shopping trolly.

Do not get one if you are a bad driver, you won't be able to drive it well and then will say stupid things like the 3.0 Z4 handles better

So you have to be a good driver to get as much out of a RX8 as any driver can from a Z4? I don't mean to insult the RX8 here but if a car requires extra driving skills to perform as well as its contemporaries isn't that more a problem with the actual car than its drivers?
