Mazda Rx-8 What to look for when buying ??

Love my RX8, sold my old one couple of years ago but im back with one, nothing else i tried came close, tried amazda 3 mps (didnt intend on buying one though), 350z, ended up with a fiesta for a year. Only other car that does it for me is the RX7.

I certainly dont care about the fuel usage.
Love the handling, the smoothness, the way the revs pick up, sound.
Mine cost £3,500 and is mint with only 50k on it and the lower tax band.

Well as I've just demonstrated there are more RX8's than there are 330Ci's.

You are not dumb enough to realise this is a really really dumb point, stop being disingenuous. The RX8 is a genuinely sporty car and much more fun than a 330Ci which is like a boat in comparison.

what else has 4 proper seats, costs under £4500 and is say 2003 onwards with the same power and feel. Nothing so if you want all the above its the car for you.

I love mine its my only car and has never let me down, never flooded you have to be stupid to flood it really, its simple dont switch off cold and leave it for too long.
Mine goes on track and performs brilliantly fair enough in the straights over cars will pass but you easily pass them on corners, and corners are where it matters.

If you want a car that just goes fast from lights, get a 3 litre diesel.
Some people just dont get the rotary engine, fair enough.

Spark plugs do not cost over £100 you can get them for around £90 easily enough only need changing every 3 years, oil is cheap im paying £12 for 5 litres. Clutches cost no more than for any other similar powered car about £250.
Failing compression and engines is usually the fault of people that do little more than travel to work and back, the engine needs to be thrashed to remove carbon build up. Just needs treating differently to a piston engine.

Fail. A 330i would be fine as a comparison for an RX8. Yes this has been done to death, but having driven both, I'd put the slightly sharper handling (literally, slightly) of the RX8 as its ONLY plus point, at everything else, the BMW is vastly superior.

Like I've said before - it's completely subjective.

Those buying an RX-8 because they want one are probably drawn to the revvy, responsive engine, the handling, the RWD drivetrain complemented by an LSD etc. etc.

The 330 offers almost nothing to those people (me included).

Last time you owned an RX8 You wrote that it was boring and no fun

The rx8 was boring, just to clinical, fast round the track but no fun really..

And thats what i thought, but like they say you dont know what you have untill its gone. Plus also got rid because i wanted to go to all the ford shows, which i do now as a support car, i was on track at ford fair, and always have my rx8 on stand as support. My last rx8 was £6500 sold for £6000, this one, newer, lower milage, better compression, £3500, was a no brainer when i got offered cash for my xr2.

I've been in the back of one before, I think 'proper' seat is pushing it, it's bearable for a short journey but I doubt many adults would want to spend more than 15 minutes in one of those seats.

None of my mates ever moan nor the 60+ year old parents that are very happy in the back to and from wales. Clearly never seen the rear seats in a 350z the rx8s main rival ;)

Your talking about the big bank account you had before buying the RX-8 :D

£3500 wouldnt call that much for it, have you seen my list of old cars 20mpg is about average.

Make sure you test drive one first, dont just buy of lust, know what your getting yourself into, i would say unless you specifically want a rotary engine its probably not for you. Too many people are addicted to torque and lazy cars. To get the best from these you need to put the effort in, simply planting your foot wont get you anywhere, but dropping to second on the motorway to overtake is always fun.

Massively lighter and smaller. When I was reading up on it a while back I saw some comparisons. The RX8 engine was easily more compact than the 1.6 engines in the MX5s if I remember correctly (this begs the question of why isn't their a rotary MX5 - it would be brutally quick!)
The power for the engine size is enormous.

If a standard engine with comparable performance to the wankel was put in a RX8 shell it would weigh a lot more and lose the low CoG and weight distribution that allows the RX8 to handle so well.

As no one really knows how to calculate the displacement of the Wankel engine it is rather tricky to give a specific power output. It also, unfortunately, drinks rather heavily for the power that it does give.

And for an engine that is so compact it is interesting that it can be removed and a Chevy LS* engine slotted into its place.

I had no complaints from my Friend and his Girlfriend, who are both 6ft. In fact they even commented on how surprisingly comfortable it was.

Engines are usually knackered before 60k miles, they drink oil and fuel for fun and they aren't 'That' fast. I had one for a year, loved it as a car but by the time I had added 5k miles to the 50k purchase mileage it was just about on it's last legs. Managed to get shot of it eventually but at a massive loss.
As much as I loved driving it, I wouldn't touch another one with a fifty foot pole!

If it comes with 3 years supply of free fuel am interested......:D

Why you selling yours ??

I need to free up some money to build a house extension, sold the girlfriends car, now selling mine to get something cheap. :(

Lovely car to drive and i have comfortably sat in the bank for long journeys (im under 6ft though).

Just a shame the mpg isn't higher.
