McDonald’s general discussion

I must admit, as much as I like it, it does quite often give me the two bob bits
Considering they'll all within spitting distance of each other, I think it's mental to not goto BK over a Maccers, it's what £4 more for a ridiculous experience, size wise? But as I say it's rare I do fast food, I do get an itch for a bucket of KFC though, but rarely honour it, when I do it's out of hand haha but worth it!

That's a family of four fed for a week though
"I aint got friends, I got family! Fries!

Here's my tips if you like a McD's. Get the app, lots of offers and deals and very easy to use. Use McFoodforthoughts site to get a Big Mac and Fries for £2.99, used to be £1.99 until recently. Using the points and Christmas offers I've had Big Mac and Fries for two of us for £1.98 recently, we've both got the app.

Compared with BK and KFC around here McD's is much more consistent, to the point I don't use the other two at all now. That's McDonald's secret, they are much better run as a chain. Whether or not you like their food it's consistent. It's also better quality than the internet would have you believe, they can't get away with the low quality ingredients they can use in the US here in the UK. I have contacts who've been to their supplier's factories and were quite impressed with them.

How? It's down to the employees and wether they cba or not that day, as with any place you buy anything from/place of work!

The standards at McDonald's are quite high. Managers are paid well for the industry and they have very tight KPIs to meet. The introduction of delivery platforms such as JustEat and Uber has also made many of their restaurants much busier.

It's definitely a lot more consistent than BK and KFC. Just because it's upsetting your stomach doesn't mean that's the case for everyone, otherwise they wouldn't be so successful.

Not that I do many fast food places, but on my travels the shockers have never had the word McDonalds in their title.

Cba Is what I've seen time and time again at many of the other named places.

It might be double the price of McDonald's but it is also double the quality. Large chips aside.

It is.

Had one recently from a designer outlet village and was good, but staff were not interested, pretty much the same at Lakeside.

I'm now getting the urge to visit one of two really good Indie burger places not far from me :/

This thread actually made me go to Five Guys the other day :D thanks for the blocked arteries @Stu999

Honest Burgers is probably my favourite chain type place. Thankfully there isn't one locally.

You'd be amazed how it all works. None of it is down to luck. Absolutely everything is documented, times, temps, quantities etc. The friers and grills etc. all have timers on them so pretty much idiot proof. Of course they can still have employees that aren't up to it but as mentioned the managers are well trained and renumerated. They have all sorts of standards for cleanliness, not something that seems that evident in some of the frankly filthy KFC's and BK's I've been to.

McD's are more consistent, not perfect, because of good processes and training. It has to as it mostly seems to run on student labour ;) It's been run consistently like this for at least the last 30 years as I've had friends and relatives who've all worked for them at one time or other. Not somewhere I'd want to work forever but a good stepping stone for someone getting into the job market.

A large fries at Five Guys is £6.15!!! I know it's not a cheap place to begin with but come on! That's robbery.

Just lol.

It's disgraceful though really. You'd have to have your head examined.

I went to a 5 guys, only once ever in my life at the O2 center because it was getting latter than anticipated and wanted to get something for the kid.

Burger was rubbish and expensive.

I'd say you if are minted then fine, I bet the reality is it's kids spending their parents money, whilst not saving, then complaining they can't afford to live.

For the money you pay at 5 Guys, I would expect their burgers to be seriously above par compared to other places. They just aren't. A Burger King XL Bacon Double Cheese is far superior to 5 Guys, which in turn is superior to McDonalds - but not to the extent their price would warrant.

You'll be lucky if anything other than the bun is cooked fresh when you order. They have gone from cooking 9 cheeseburgers and then wrapping and keeping them in the front bins to be quickly taken for 10 mins, to cooking and holding that burger patty in a warming drawer for upto 20 minutes before it is then used to make your burger when you order it.

The reason it is slow is they now make one order at a time rather than actually batch making end products.
I literally stand and watch them cook it in front of me... maybe it's different in the UK.

In Austria all burgers are cooked on the spot, there is nothing in the bin.

Doesn't a cheeseburger take less than two minutes to prepare or something? Assuming an empty grille with no queue obviously.

Five guys burger is cooked fresh from mince. It might not have as much taste as BK but that's probably because it's full of less crap. That's what you pay for. I don't agree with the pricing but it is inherently a better product and is cooked literally in front of you. BK is not superior.

That just sounds like they make them work harder due to greed/gives the ground level staff more reason to not care/slack off...

I can't see in what world you think BK isn't better staffing wise, I see WAY more scumbags/slackers working at Maccers than BK, and IIRC when I've seen the wages pop up on job sites for either BK definitely pays more, so again more reason to not hate your life and slack/taking it out on the job/world... I also know people who've worked for Maccers and they hated it when we were younger...

BK always seems a lot cleaner, less chaos going on, they also don't have security on-site/fights, unlike Maccers... I've seen mad stuff happen in a Maccers in the day and night in a nice area haha! Never seen that in a BK. I've never gone into a BK and it been stupidly loud/rowdy/full of mouthy people swearing/kicking off etc... Nor ever one that needed security, Maccers on the other hand.

It's genuinely blown my mind you think they're the more consistent one, I'd say they've got it wrong WAY more times, and their food is wildly varied QC wise mate.

I know, it's not rocket science, as I said above I know people who've worked their, be it ground level or management, so that's my point it's down to the employees or fact they leave stuff sat on a rack being constantly reheated all day like a dodgy burger/chicken shop.

I think it's mad you also reckon they're the better/cleaner one, I mean Maccers were literally done for washed meats/bad food standards many times, I've never known that to happen to BK, KFC yes, fair enough that is VERY hit or miss... But I cannot see why a better paid employee wouldn't be happier at a BK than a lower wage Maccers.
