Upon thinking about it, and having a good read. It looks like they've improved on last years car which was not too shabby at all.

If you want the maximum air travelling under the nose, then the kinky nose *fnar!* is needed as the max tub height is higher than the max nose height.
McLaren are running a low tub height so they can go with the smooth nose shape.

Its about what airflow you are prioritising. If you are going for a design that requires as much air under the nose as possible then your will go for a Caterham style nose.
However, if your overall design is not so dependant on central airflow under the nose then you can afford to lower it and smooth out the curve.
The McLaren opens up the possibility of a good mix of cars this year with different approaches.
