eventually they will just flat out invade the city and Britain will look decidedly useless.
I think people underestimate the significance of this if it comes to it - if the rest of the world just let it happen the implications for places like Taiwan are huge (despite having the US as an ally).
Only 1-2 times do they seem to be using any force though - a lot of the time seems to be pulling punches and making sure the cameras are on them, etc. so not really sure what to make of it.
I spent the last couple of weeks there and I’m currently flying back there now in order to get a ferry to Macau. Literally haven’t seen any kind of protest or violence, everything seems very quiet and normal. Maybe I’ve just been lucky?

The actions of the Chinese although brutal aren't that surprising, Hong Kong's liberal democracy (just as is Taiwan) is a poisonous spot on the face of china and if left alone could cause chaos back home with locals wanting the same.
