Cant wait for this! This will be my down time when the baby is asleep!

Launch day and reviews are mixed, seems performance is abit hit and miss and the overall game feels arcadey...

I'm not sure whether to buy it now or wait for a sale.

Does Clans support configurable HOTAS?
I know Mercs supports a few TM HOTAS, but if you have anything else, it requires some genuine effort

I tried it for a bit and I know they are mechs but it seems sluggish and unconnected in controls, stuttering and really low performance even on medium\low. Shame as was looking forward to it but tried on gamepass and now removed from my wishlist and may check it out again in a year or so to see how it's improved

Yea do not pay full price for this.

I'm a fan of the franchise and the game isn't terrible, it's also far from being great.

I got a bit of life out of it via some mods, but the game is very arcadey and repetitive.

I'd say get it cheap, give it a go and if you don't expect much, you won't be disappointed.

I started Clans last night and... really like it so far. Performance has been fine for me, with a 7950X3D / 4090 combo. There's a tiny bit of stutter at the start of each mission, but no other problems. It looks a lot better than Mercs did.

As for the game... it's a lot more pared back and focused than Mercs was. There are only 18 playable mechs and there's a linear campaign with no open world. But the flipside of that is that it's a lot more polished. The mission design is much, much better than that in Mercs' campaign. PGI have clearly learned a lot along the way, including from the various DLC campaigns they released for Mercs.

The story's decent. I think this is the first time we've had a Clans-perspective game which has you fighting against the Inner Sphere (MW2 was Clan vs Clan). The game doesn't shy away from how horrible Smoke Jaguar are. It actually feels a bit odd to be playing a game in 2024 whose story is so unashamed about the fact you're playing as the baddies (Battletech normally prefers shades of grey, but Smoke Jaguar are generally awful).

In a weird way, the game feels like a spiritual successor to '90s games like Wing Commander/Strike Commander and TIE Fighter, when sci-fi sim-adjacent games could get AAA-level production values.

I tried it on my buddies account and its Janky and performance is really mediocre even on a 4090! Without Frame Gen on to hit higher 100+ fps, the game can slow right down to below 20fps for no reason at all.

Also randomly started getting out of video memory errors when starting the game which never happened before. The whole thing feels very hit and miss though i did manage a few campaign missions.

Like you said, it feels very arcadey and the whole mechbay change is abit of a step backwards for me imo. Nothing really feels intuitive so i'm finding myself clicking random menu's to find things.

Do you have a 13th or 14th gen Intel CPU? "Out of video memory" errors when loading a UE5 game are often an early indicator of chip degradation.

13th gen 13700K but i figured it out, it was a memory overclock issue. Dropped my overclock down from 8200 to 8000 with the same tight timings and it's been flawless. My CPU is overclocked too with a fixed voltage and amperage locked so i can't burn this out.
