Mechwarrior Online. Yes, really :)

Ah I thought it was something like that, so if I get targetted/or target a specific area it'll get hotter and have more chance to get destroyed?
I also see % on people when I target, is that their overall hull strength? It's a little ambiguous since people die well before 0, but I find most of all hard to tell how much I'm from dying.

Hmm damn that's dissappointing. What was the last mechwarrior (or similar) game of modern times... was it Mechwarrior 4?

MW4 was awesome. Clan league battles were an adrenaline rush. No respawn so tactics were a must!

I don't see what the issue is personally?
it seems to play ok and be a good remake of an old classic with an online basis?

It's area specific damage. As it gets closer to red, it's getting more damaged. So if you continually shoot an enemy Mech's right arm, eventually you'll blow it off. It's a good way to disarm them, and you have to watch out that it doesn't happen to you. if your centre gets destroyed you die, your legs can be crippled (very very bad if you're a light Mech) and your arms (and weapons mounted on them) can be destroyed. It's all worth taking into account when you build your own mech. I'm still grinding away to build myself a heavy! I might cave and build a fast little commando though.

tbh it's a team game, get a team?
anyone can have custom mechs it just takes time!

That has always been a dumb argument, only because a game is heavily team based doesn't mean it's "Get a team or gfto", granted being with a pre made will see great improvements in coordination but games like LoL, WoT or TF2 can still have plenty of team work with PuGs.

It's really a simple fix, add a solo que with up to 3 friends only and add a group que for pre mades to play together, how can anyone not agree with that fix?, normally when people try defend it they just want to continue to have easy pug stomp games. They're making it so 4 player pre mades can still play but 3 player limit is better imo, it allows friends to play together without pre made abuse of 4.

Besides, being a FTP game solo players are generally the life blood of them, the MW devs are lucky they made 5 mill off founders because at the moment if they didn't this would flop. If all the solo players are scared off due to pointless one sided stomps unless they add a subscription fee for group players this game wont last long.

They really need to have an overhaul of the introduction of the game, it's the most unwelcoming experience to newbies I've seen in a game for a long time, I'm lucky I have past MW experience I wouldn't blame anyone uninstalling the game off the interface alone.

my issue was (before I got a team) I didn't know how to get a new mech, I didn't know what I was aiming for or how to play well as a team.

After much excitement, I've now played this, and I'm disappointed :(.

The gameplay seems significantly dumbed down from previous games. There's no area targeting, no heat management other than don't fire/shutdown, and environments seem very bland. Maybe they're intending to make significant changes between the beta and final, but in terms of actual content, it feels more like an alpha at present...

Well I really enjoy this game coming from a big fan of all the games and also a big player of the table top version. You can see the whole game isnt quite finished as of yet. but am very much enjoying how it plays. It feels very like the last mechwarrior online that was battletech 3025 before it got canned :(

What i will say though is there is a lack of reason at the moment. Its really just 8v8 with nothing more. Im sure it will change though

how can you say no area targeting, heat management is going to be more fire/shutdown/blow up soon.
maps being added/updated etc.
after all, beta is beta

more things being added to change it from 8v8 TDM

I'm liking the new patch. Very pretty. And the new trial mechs are saweeeeet! I agree the 8vs8 TDM does get a bit monotonous sometimes.

what I really want is 8v8 premade teams, currently we have a max of 4 man premades so it can be very annoying when you've got your 4 man and the rest of the team power down/dissconnect/charge in etc.

Because there is no targeting. There's area specific damage, sure, but you used to be able to target a specific bit of a mech from long range.

On the coolant side of things, you used to be able to choose to do a coolant flush in order to rapidly bring heat down, at the expense of faster heat buildup for the remainder of the mission.

I realise it's only a beta, but it feels like there are some quite major omissions at present, even for a beta.

well if you want these things in the game then bring it up in the forums,
you never know, it could happen!
I think the IDF area targeting would be mega OP as you would just end up legging every single scout from across the map!

What do you mean by area targeting? As far as I was aware if you hit the left torso you damage the left torso?

I want to like this game, but I am horrendous at it.

I cant seem to aim properly with lasers....

I dont play FPS's much so maybe thats it? More used to RPG & Strategy games.

he means with things like LRMs.

Crime, the issue you may have is some are torso/head mounted and others are arms and you may have both or neither!

Ah right, I think I prefer it how it is to be fair. Being able to target the legs or head with LRMs would be nasty.

Yeah, it took me time to adjust to my hunchback, the AC was shoulder mounted so fixed forward (use the cross to aim). The lasers were armed mounted (use the circle to aim).
