Medieval 2 total war thread

http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m208/toxicseagull/

for some nice screenies methinks :)

as the english milan and denmark are your main enemy's with france only being a minor pain if you wipe them out quickly if they get a chance to develop they are a major kick in the balls. take out scotland with your starting army's in the mainland before they capture any other city's, i never bother with inverness of dublin as when i move my capital down south into france they are a pain in the ass. and i try to have loads of city's with only castles at cean and nottingham and strategic landlocked provinces.

btw armoured swordsmen are superior to feudal and are cheaper/easier to get :)

hey i got a question: my faction leader has a total of +12 dread attirbutes..

however, the card only shows 2 dread.. does this mean its a bug or the 10 is a given and my leader is able to rout weak units just by charging?

He might have +12 of attributes but other things such as traits etc might cancel them out etc

Heh. The only chivalrous generals I have are the ones I have adopted. That doesn't usually last long though. I never, ever release prisoners. They get wiped out without a second thought.

cba to read all the pages of this thread lol...

but... anyone know if the patch is out yet as there are so many friggin bugs...

great game though. :)

About halfway through my turns playing as england, wiped out: scottish, french, denmark and halfway through spain now, but the stupid pope made me wait 7 turns before i can attack them again, otherwise ill be excommunicated :(.
Im in peace with all other bordering countries: Poland, roman empire, venice, papal states...
Exept the ones i've wiped out, there were 2 more nations wiped out, one of them portugal and the other i cant renember...
Damn jersusalem is hard to take, 2 crusades and still about 3 full mongol armies there...

Hmm after reading posts i must have been very very lucky as havent had black death for more as 2 turns yet in 1 city in total :).

Hope some patch adds more camera options in campaign, i hate waiting ages and ages when turning, waiting for all thr stupid mercants, princeses, diplomats, priests and other characters moves...

Btw: anyone had any tips for training assasins, highest i've ever got in medival is 3 skill points, i usually try princesses as they have 50% succes rate but still i cant get the damn skill up :( .

Oh and ai is very stupid sometimes, waits within my archers range for like 10 minutes before charging, letting me kill 90% before they do...
Same issue with gunpowder units, ai just stands in range of gunpowder units instead of charging...

You can turn off the AI moves in campaign screen by going to the options while in the campaign screen.

Assasins are incredibly hard to level up, all I can suggest is keep picking off princesses and captains, I think it's random if you get an attribute increase after a successful mission so just keep at it.

Thats a completely different thing. You'll know once you get hit by the Black Death. It really hurts.

I was hit by the Black Death. Nearly 2/3rds of my empire was hit and I lost about 20 thousand people. My money and economy is right down the toilet. I am having to wage war against Denmark and Spain with absolutely no money to replensish armies in the field.

The Plague has apparantly passed so it is just a case of waiting for my economy to recover.

Assassins, as said, are proper hard to get good, and you cant easily lose an assassin when his snake bites him or he runs into a dead end! My advice is have a few assassins go after one target and to save the game just before you attempt a mission.

To get good assassins I only build them in one province, which eventually gets offered to house the guild for assassins. I then find the nearest rebel army captain and send about 3 I've trained and every turn attempt an assassination on him, using this method I've had level 8 - 10 assassins roaming my lands picking off enemy leaders and faction heirs.

I want to follow armies, inquisators, assasins etc.. tho. (ones that can do damage)
Just dont wnat to follow them useless characters liek diplomats, princesses, heretics, witches, mercants, priests (!) and spies...

Ah thanks, ill try that , didnt notice a guild could be built for assasins...

Just starting out with this game. can you please give me your 3 fav factions that you use please ??

Depends what difficulty you want;
England= easiest
Holy roman empire is probably hardest.
And france is hard, but not as hard as holy roman empire...

It all depends on how you use the faction, england and spain start in strong positions at the beginning while venice has very strong militia. Just go with the one with the units you like, as once you get into the campaign they pretty much all are on an equal footing.

Scotland is my favorite of the unlocked factions so far, very strong heavy infantry and awesome pikemen. :p

England starts you off in the best position in the game. You have a couple of cities in the UK and also Caen in mainland Europe.

You can launch attacks from London into the rest of the UK and can start your empire in mainland Europe from Caen. You are also protected pretty much on all sides. I have never seen an enemy army travel via ship so in theory once you own the UK you will always have a place to fall back to, should the worst happen and you get pwned :p It also provides a great source of income as you can safely make all the cities into towns.

More Q's:

Anyone seen any Swiss Pikemen yet - are they available as mercenary recruits somewhere near Switzerland?

And what do the rotting cow carcases from the trebuchets actually do? They make a nice splat and the unit's flag goes green, but do they have any effect (or is that enough!)?

Time to grab Spain me'thinks!

Yes used them a few times pretty good at stopping cavalry attacks in number but not much cop at hand to hand. I tend to stick them on my flanks.

The rotting cows supposedly effects enemy morale - but it's a bit of a comedy value unit and should be removed (as the flaming pigs were in Rome) by the modding community. Great graphics though when they splat! :D
