Medieval 2 total war thread

How far east does the map go? Does it make it to china?
Well, Baghdad is right at the far right of the map, so that's as far as it goes. It opens up West after the first University is built, however :)

Reminds me, I must start that :)

Ouch! I ran Rome on a 9800Pro and sieges were bad enough in that - I can only imagine what Medieval 2 is like.

Thankfully I upgraded four months ago, so I don't worry about that kind of thing yet. I can honestly say it's made me take the days of struggling for performance for granted....but thats why I did it :)

Rome runs like a dream on my machine, though probably because I always play games on lower resolutions (1024*768). It's a shame really because Medieval actually looks graphically worse than Rome does by a long long way. I'll be upgrading my entire machine after Christmas though so it's no big deal for a couple of months :)

I am longing to see this game in its ful glory though...

I'm not sure it would run it. My PC can handle none city battles on low - medium detail. As soon as I fight in a city I have to have everything set to low and it chuggs along between 5- 15 fps. Just about playable as it's quite a slow game anyhow.

It could probably play the campaign battle map with no probs, but that's only half the game.

Bless you Zip you will be struggling to even open it :D Cant you get a cheap upgrade somewhere?

Not at the moment.

I have a Girlfriend that takes up a lot of money because she lives a fair while away and i have to hold on to my money for when i travel up and visit and that soaks up what i have moneywise :p

Plus my Job is on and off all the time and i can go a month or 2 with out working.

Then i also have to save up for a better car because ol Crusty isnt the most comfortable thing to frive 500kms to my gfs house with :p

And i have to pay off my Gym membership.

Then pay off my mum.

So you see money is very valuable to me atm :p

Anyone want to send me a free GFX card that could handle the game? :p

It was all go last night, even though I only had an hour to play. I took Antioch, Acre and Jerusalem with nothing but the half-hearted army I sent over there after three pitched battles. Man, those Mongols are tough. If I hadn't lured their first army into a reckless charge at my lines, I'd be history. As it is, I lost 650 men to his 500, but I won the fight. The rest of the Mongols were off fighting the other crusades - I'm at full relations with the Papal States now :)

Unfortunately, in my rush to reinforce Jerusalem (a requirement to win), I piled two armies into two fleets - two strong fleets - and one got jumped by four.....(FOUR!!!) HRE fleets on the West coast of Italy. The HRE only has like 4 provinces left - I have NFC how they got four fleets that big in the Mediterranean. They killed my King who was on his way to help out in the Holy Land :(

Next turn my new King, Robin, dies from the plague. :(

My next King, Harry (I started getting quite attached to my Kings at this point), pops up in Antioch...there are three Mongol Assassins around him, the Timurids on the way and a full stack of Mongols half a day's march away.

I have another army en route, but it's only off the coast of Sardinia, and another which is halfway down France. I have massive fleets off the South coast of France waiting to escort them to smite the heathen, but I've got this feeling it's going to be a case of too little, too late.

This weekend is crunch weekend. I'll either make it, or fail miserably.

Been playing it today and have noticed there arent any pre-battle speeches! There was one in the first battle but since then there's no motivational speeches at the start of each battle by the general? Is this normal or should there be speeches at the start of each battle like in Rome TW?

Secondly, how do you arrange unit cards so I can group all cavalry together and have all troops together when selecting an army on the main map? cheers!

Just started an english campaign on wednesday and have only just got enough time to play again, Ive managed to Take over the north coast of france after some real hard fighting vs... rebals.

Im going to make anothr army up and see if I can get scotland to attack me :)

just started the english campaign today, im on turn 20 so far ive took york, wales, antwerp and brugges.

am being offered 2500 for taking dublin in 15 turns, think ill have to build a port and a fleet first. either that or take on scotland and use their crossing..

They are still in but it takes a while to kick in, it'll show you some of your troops first, then it'll cut to the general, or captain and the speech will start, again like rome, its dependent upon your generals stats/troop type and enemy info, some funny speeches if your general is a little loony.

Like the guy above said, it takes a while before he starts, but when he does he can come up with some funny stuff. I don't know about the other factions, but the English generals have some very funny things to say about everyone else :) There's even some naughty language. Kinda.

Just walk through his land - he might not even notice. Honest - it's what I did :) - that 2500 florins means an awful lot at that stage of the game.

Taken it back! For those who have Rome Total War dont bother. It's basically just an upgraded graphics engine and a slightly modified campaign map.

The AI is just as poor as it was in Rome. Cavalry still cant mow down routing men without running to them, running away, running to them, etc. When the AI attacks my castles it does so with all cavalry on numerous occassions. They cant scale the walls so just sit outside the castle. I move archers within range and just mow them all down and they just sit there!!

If they had improved the AI for this release it would be worth it as Rome was good apart from the poor AI. But alas they just reskinned the original :(
