MegaUpload has been shut down

Not just adobe, certain anti-virus companies and a lot of proprietary software. I have no problem paying for software but not at prices which can be deemed ridiculous.

You might be able to in ten years.

In theory, if we see a boom in 3d printing, when you need a new part for your car you'll be able to just print it out. S becomes the ability to download all parts of a car and build it.

Voila.

Not surprising really, I bet the vast majority of the files were dodgy. Bit easier to close down than torrent sites that don't host the files.
 
Update: The WSJ says seven Megaupload employees are under arrest, with four already locked down—four of them in New Zealand! No word if one of them is Swizzy himself.

Update 2: As of 13 hours ago on Twitter, Mr. Beatz did not seem to give a **** about anything.

Update 3: The AP reports the following statement from Megaupload: "The fact is that the vast majority of Mega's Internet traffic is legitimate, and we are here to stay. If the content industry would like to take advantage of our popularity, we are happy to enter into a dialogue. We have some good ideas. Please get in touch."

Well, not really, no.

Update 4: The Department of Justice has issued a gleeful statement regarding the takedown, coordinated with police around the world, calling it "among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States," and listed the individual charged with "racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, conspiring to commit money laundering and two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement."

I wonder, with the networking and interconnectivity of the average household i.e. tv with internet. Wouldn't it be a good idea to start a online store which you could upload and sell you're music without the need for producers. just an idea.

Also with certain companies creating software then charging stupid prices for it , means more and more people are turning to open source software, i wonder how many have gone to openoffice because of the stupid price for microsoft products?
 
Pity we don't have proper politicians in the UK, I would push for building server cities in the country, relax the laws for internet traffic, deregulate properly and allow companies to grow. What we get from people collaborating and sharing information in one month is more than Hollywood produces in 3 decades.

It's littered with Copyright material.

As for the "there will be other sites like it" argument I'm not so sure, who is going to put the effort into these new sites if they get blocked by the piracy police faster than ever before? (note: I'm not sure how long the process takes with these new powers?)
