Meguiars Ultimate Compound

That’s far to involved for me, I just pre rinse the car with my worx battery powered jet wash. Then wash the car with Armor All wash and wax, dry it then apply compound or in future polish, then wash and wax it again and finally rinse the car with my worx jet wash again.

Next time I do it I’m going to use a separate wax and shampoo as that’s better then an all in one wash and wax product.

Even without doing all the list of things a that Mekrel outlined, why would you use the wrong product to do what you need to do? As people have said, you could end up damaging the paintwork. You seem so relaxed about this? I appreciate not everyone cares a lot about paint but at least use the right product for the job...

Did you not read my earlier post quoting Nick Winn from Meguiars who says that even their more powerful compounds only remove a microscopic amount of paint which is of no great concern.

Yeah this is good stuff I use this instead of T-Cut, weirdly I'll be using mine on Saturday to get the gritty feel off the paint on my Xedos... great stuff!

What’s that got to do with you using the wrong products? Rubbing contamination all over the clear coat will be scratching and removing quite a lot of it… causing - in detailing terms - quite serious damage.

I think you’re looking at this completely the wrong way…

Surely by rinsing the car first then using wash an wax I’m removing any containment’s. As Nick Winn says using Ultimate Compound removes a microscopic amount of paint and while it’s not ideal to use it often you shouldn’t be afraid to use it.

Bear in mind he's probably expecting people are using it for it's actual purpose of paint correction and swirl removal, not routine removal of bonded contaminants like tar.

What difference does that make, and it’s not 100% certain that it was tar.

It makes all the difference? Or you’re just scratching your paintwork by rubbing dirt/tar/whatever all over it?

To me it doesn’t look like tar but stains in the paint and the ultimate compound is a paint cleaner. That might explain why turtle wax bug and tar remover didn’t work on them.

Is that a serious question? I'm not even sure how to answer that.

It's a compound used to restore your paint finish, probably intended to be used once a year or so on the whole car - not something to do routine 'spot removal' of contaminants that are bonded into your paintwork (whether it's tar specifically or not).

I'm sure if you asked Meguiars, they'd not recommend using it the way you are. I suspect for what you're doing, if you don't want to use separate products to remove contaminants, they'd probably suggest their Wash Plus+ product, as whilst it has some clay like and compounding ability, it'll also be full of lubricants to lessen the risk of doing damage.

All I know is I had some marks on my car and ultimate compound removed them, in future I’ll try a less aggressive polish first. The paintwork looks great there are no scratches or anything it’s nice and shiny.

If you use a mild compound which is clearcoat safe on a panel covered in sand what do you think will happen? The clearcoat won't magically be protected from the sand because the compound is clearcoat safe.

Extreme example but that's what people are getting at.

Perhaps stick to posting your tips on FB then rather than on a forum full of enthusiasts.

Recieved my Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover today and while I don't have high hopes for it to deal with anything other than tar spots its another weapon in my arsenal. I've also got some Meguiars Ultimate Polish on order which is milder than Meguiars Ultimate Compound and I ordered a two pack of Meguiars applicator pads. You can never have too many applicator pads.

Lastly bought a shaver plug to make up an order over £ 16.66 ex VAT for free Amazon delivery. The fuse blew in my current one and I couldn't be arsed faffing about trying to find the right sized fuse to order so just ordered a whole new plug, it was only £ 1.32 anyway.

Was thinking of ordering some more Meguiars Ultimate Compound but I have over half a bottle left and I might find the Meguiars Ultimate Polish is good enough to do the same job, we'll see.
